We kicked off our 80s theme week with some totally rad activities. We participated in Movin and Grovin with Richard Simons (our Life Enrichment Coordinator, Kim), conducted science experiments and enjoyed the lovely weather with a walk around the pond.

Science experiment #1 blow up a balloon, use the pointed side of a skewer dipped in dish soap and push it through the thick part of the balloon where you tie it. Once though continue onto the other side where its thick at the top and put the skewer through. The skewer should go through both sides of the ballon without popping the balloon. ( We only had a couple balloons pop but the rest went through smoothly)

Science experiment #2 on a plate pour water to cover the bottom, add pepper, then use a drop of dish soap and watch the pepper move to the sides of the plate away from the dish soap.

The residents in buildings 1 and 2 had a relaxing afternoon as we hosted Amy Traylor from Massage Works Natural Health Center to perform a Sound Bath session. Afterwards the rain stick was passed around for them to make their own sounds with the stick. Residents also had the opportunity to ask her about her sound creation techniques. We look forward to another sound bath in the future.

Science is like magic, but real!! An experiment was conducted in buildings 1 and 2, where residents created designs from colored craft pipe cleaners and immersed them in a borax solution using string and a popsicle stick. After 48 hours, crystal formation was observed on the pipe cleaners. In building 3, residents colored each end of a paper towel with markers and watched as the colors ascended and connected in two cups of water.
