I’m going to say something that may sound uncomfortable.

Cybersecurity doesn’t have a fear shortage.

It has an engagement shortage.

Every cybersecurity leader I’ve spoken with has story after story that would scare the pants off anyone.

Businesses wiped out.
People losing life savings.
Reputations destroyed overnight.

The stakes are real. The consequences are brutal.

And yet…

When many of these same professionals present — at networking events, board meetings, or conferences — they often sound exactly alike.

Same cadence
Same terminology
Same slide structure
Same “threat landscape” narrative

I’m not suggesting they open with fear.

In fact, one executive I spoke with intentionally avoids fear-based messaging altogether — and I respect that.

Fear isn’t the lever.

Attention is.

Whether the objective is urgency, trust, funding, or compliance — the goal is the same:
Get the audience to lean in.
Technical brilliance is not the issue.

Translation is.
