All the what-ifs can paralyze you and keep you stuck in the past. It can be really hard to let go of the past and the hypotheticals, but remind yourself of the things that are currently in your control and release yourself from the worries about things that are out of your control. Giving your power over to things you cannot change or control is a disservice to you. 🤍🌺🌼💐

A lovely reminder to not only myself in my own journey, but to all of those out there that struggle with the pressures they may put on themselves, the comparisons we make to those around us, and the feeling that we aren’t doing enough. Focus on the direction of your journey and less about how fast you are getting where you want to go. Everyone’s journey to healing, success, stability, happiness goes at its own pace. Embrace the process and release yourself from the timeline. 💙🌤📸:

Colored this in a session with a teenage client the other day... when we were done coloring, we focused on our breathing for a minute then pretended we were breathing in the smell of the flowers on the inhale, letting the beautiful smell and wonderful colors flow through our bodies, then exhaled all the negative thoughts and feelings we had that day. It was a really great mindfulness exercise... it’s crazy how powerful our breath and imagination can be to help us calm our minds and bodies. Give it try! .

Showing vulnerability can be hard, may feel weird, and can be uncomfortable. But growth happens in the uncomfort and through challenging ourselves. Being vulnerable with yourself can help you stay aware of where you are at with your mental health. Healthy, strong friendships and relationships take a willingness and ability to be vulnerable with the other person. Find strength and power in vulnerability. 🤍💙

Super helpful information about talking to children about race and cultural differences! 👧🏼🧑🏾🦱👧🏻👦🏽👩🏿🦱
Children start receiving explicit and implicit messages about the meaning of race from birth and begin to show pro-white/anti-Black bias by age three (Baron & Banaji, 2006). To counter anti-Black bias and racism, experts recommend naming and taking action against racism with kids as early and as oft...

To potential new clients searching for a therapist, allow me to share a little about myself and my counseling approach:
I have experience providing individual counseling to teens and adults, family counseling, and play therapy with children. I utilize the evidence-based treatment of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), art therapy techniques, and a strengths-based approach to help clients cope with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, trauma, grief, struggling relationships, faulty communication, behavioral issues, and navigating difficult life transitions (divorce, moving, death of a parent). I work with clients to help them gain the power back over their circumstances and make positive changes in perspective. I strive to provide all clients with an empathetic listening ear, compassionate understanding, and genuine caring attitude with the client’s best interest in mind.
I utilize non-directive and child-centered play therapy as well as sand tray therapy to build a trusting relationship that helps children process through traumatic/difficult events, become aware and expressive of their feelings and emotions, and build upon their strengths and resiliency.
I have just received my Master of Art in Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree through the University of the Cumberlands. I previously received my Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Auburn University. I am under the supervision of Kara McDaniel, the founder and clinical director of Lifescapes Counseling Services, LLC. I am a current member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and am currently working towards my license in professional Counseling (LPC) and becoming certified as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT).
Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have and I look forward to being a part of your journey!
