What can you do to increase your health and immune system function now?

Your baseline health and immune system function are what determines how your body responds to environmental stressors such as viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens. The way our immune system adapts to these stressors is determined by our baseline health status. Taking responsibility for building a strong immune system by living a healthy lifestyle is the most important thing you can do in restoring and maintaining health!

Get adjusted. A healthy functioning nervous system is self-healing, self-regulating, and adapts to stressors in its environment. The body’s ability to adapt is inhibited when overwhelmed with physical, chemical, and emotional stressors. Chiropractors identify interferences to the nervous system, and chiropractic adjustments remove the interferences to allow the body to restore health by functioning and adapting on its own.

Proper supplementation of essential nutrients. Adequately supplementing vitamins and essential nutrients is necessary for optimal immune function. Work with a health and wellness practitioner to choose high-quality and bioavailable supplements that are tailored to your individual needs.

Exercise daily. Daily exercise decreases chronic inflammation and enables the body to express proper immune system function and proper organ function, including lungs and heart. Regularly taking a brisk walk also decreases the incidence and severity of an upper respiratory infection by 50%.

Eat to live. Consume a wholesome diet rich in vitamins and minerals. A wholesome, immunity boosting diet contains a colorful assortment of fruits and vegetables with organic meats and fish. Avoid grains and sugar.

As the seasons change and the holidays are on the horizon, now is the time to take steps to build a strong immune system that can adapt when exposed to illness and stress. Some children and adults seem to become trapped in an endless cycle of illness and just as one cold or virus clears, another illness arrives. Some battle persistent coughs, disrupting sleep for the entire family, perpetuating the cycle of sickness.

Most colds resolve on their own within 5-7 days, but the recurring pattern indicates a deeper issue. When illness is recurring, it signals the immune system is struggling to keep up and the body needs support.

As with all health concerns, addressing the root cause is key to long-term health. Rather than simply managing symptoms, supporting the nervous system and immune system function enables the body’s natural ability to self-heal and self-regulate. Chiropractic adjustments help regulate the nervous system which controls immune responses and supports the body’s ability to adapt to stressors.

A healthy immune system starts with a foundation of nervous system focused chiropractic care and is built up with consistent care and supportive healthy habits. Prioritize rest by establishing consistent sleep routines. Ensure adequate hydration by encouraging water intake throughout the day. Choose whole foods and limit processed foods and sugars. Meet Sam! Sam is the new Front Desk Coordinator at our clinic, where she strives to create a welcoming and positive experience for every patient.

Let’s get to know her:

⭐️she has a horse named Chip and used to show at the county and state fair

⭐️she has an adopted dog named Rex

⭐️she goes to every single day of the Iowa State Fair

⭐️she has rewatched heartland, Gilmore girls, and greys anatomy more times than she can count

Do you have littles or friends with littles getting ear infections? —> Are you ready to try something different?!

Ear infections are a common issue for kids in early years and can be tough on them and parents. Chiropractic is a great place to start to help prevent and heal these infections naturally!

Your nervous system controls vital functions, including the immune system and fluid drainage from the ears. Misalignments in the upper neck can disrupt this process, leading to fluid build up and possible ear infections.

Getting adjusted as a child (or an adult) can restore proper alignment and enhance your nervous system function, which helps aid in fluid drainage. This not only helps prevent ear infections but also supports the natural healing process if an infection does occur.
