As we head into the holiday season, many celebrations naturally revolve around food. Food brings people together and adds joy to our traditions. Sharing a meal with loved ones is meant to feel special, not stressful, and there’s no reason to feel guilty about enjoying it. One day of celebration won’t undo the healthy habits you practice throughout the year.

So go ahead and savor that slice of pie or an extra scoop of mashed potatoes and gravy. Food nourishes not only your body, but also your soul!

Our residents had a tail-wagging good time this week when the local K9 unit stopped by our independent living for a special visit! 🐶💙

Residents loved learning about how Nala helps keep our community safe — and of course, there were plenty of cuddles and photo ops! 📸🐕

Thank you to our local law enforcement and Nala for bringing so much joy (and a few happy tears!) to Prairie Vista Village. It was truly a day full of smiles, laughter, and love. ❤️

🌟 Why Seniors Thrive in Independent Living! 🌟

Thinking about the next chapter of life? Independent living communities are a wonderful option for seniors who want to enjoy freedom, convenience, and connection — without the hassle of home maintenance. 🏡✨

Here are just a few reasons why so many older adults are making the move:
💬 Community & Friendship – Say goodbye to loneliness and hello to a vibrant social life! Enjoy group activities, clubs, and shared meals with people who share your interests.
🍽️ No More Chores – Forget mowing lawns or fixing leaky faucets. Everything’s taken care of so you can spend time doing what you love.
💪 Wellness & Safety – With fitness classes, on-site dining, and caring staff nearby, you can live confidently and independently.
🎨 Freedom to Live Your Way – Travel, volunteer, take up new hobbies — the possibilities are endless!

Life at an independent living community isn’t about giving up independence — it’s about gaining more of it. 🌼

Pumpkin is loaded with vitamin A to support eye and immune health, fiber for digestion, and potassium to help manage blood pressure. It’s also naturally free of saturated fat, sodium, and cholesterol, making it a heart-healthy choice. Senior living communities offer a lot of practical, social, and emotional benefits. Here are some reasons why making the move earlier can be a good decision:

1. Stay in control: Move on your own terms while you’re healthy and active. Transitioning when you’re still independent allows you to choose your new home on your own terms — not because of a sudden health issue or crisis. You’ll have time to settle in comfortably and get to know the community, rather than having to adjust under stress.
2. Less hassle: No home maintenance, yard work, snow removal, or surprise repairs, housekeeping.
3. More social: Built-in community, events, and friendships help prevent isolation.
4. Better health: Easy access to fitness, activities, and nutritious meals.
5. Peace of mind: Safe environment with future care options if needed.
6. More freedom: Fewer chores, more time to do what you enjoy.

Making the decision to move to a senior community is hard. PVV typically has a wait list in independent living but right now people on it are not yet ready to move forward and more often than not when they are ready, they are needing a higher level of care than independent living. Some individuals stay on the wait list for 13 years, (PVV has been open for 11) and when the need arises, are superseding independent living level of care, sometimes even needing more care than what assisted living provides.

Maybe you, your parents or client isn’t sure about moving to a senior community, now introducing a 3 month Winter Staycation at PVV! We furnish furniture and just pack a bag and try it before committing!

Easy Tips to Boost Fiber Intake

Many of us don’t get enough fiber—older women need about 21 grams per day, and older men about 30 grams. According to the University of California San Francisco, a high-fiber diet may help lower the risk of heart disease, diabetes, diverticular disease, constipation, and colon cancer. Fiber also supports digestive health and helps keep cholesterol in check.
Want to add more fiber? Check out the image for simple ideas! Be sure to increase fiber gradually and drink plenty of water to keep your stomach comfortable as your body adjusts.
