Senior living communities offer a lot of practical, social, and emotional benefits. Here are some reasons why making the move earlier can be a good decision:
1. Stay in control: Move on your own terms while you’re healthy and active. Transitioning when you’re still independent allows you to choose your new home on your own terms — not because of a sudden health issue or crisis. You’ll have time to settle in comfortably and get to know the community, rather than having to adjust under stress.
2. Less hassle: No home maintenance, yard work, snow removal, or surprise repairs, housekeeping.
3. More social: Built-in community, events, and friendships help prevent isolation.
4. Better health: Easy access to fitness, activities, and nutritious meals.
5. Peace of mind: Safe environment with future care options if needed.
6. More freedom: Fewer chores, more time to do what you enjoy.
Making the decision to move to a senior community is hard. PVV typically has a wait list in independent living but right now people on it are not yet ready to move forward and more often than not when they are ready, they are needing a higher level of care than independent living. Some individuals stay on the wait list for 13 years, (PVV has been open for 11) and when the need arises, are superseding independent living level of care, sometimes even needing more care than what assisted living provides.
