Journey Center

Journey Center Supporting families and children in their journey with Autism. Services Offered: ABA Treatment (2-18 years), Speech Therapy, Parent Training.

Our center is a place where children will have fun, be valued, and treated with respect and dignity. We assess what children enjoy and use those items or activities to teach and motivate a child to work through a task that is difficult to learn. We focus on the prerequisites to education and the necessary skills children need to function as independently as possible in their natural environment with minimal to no lifetime supports. When assessment reveals that a child displays developmental delays we write an individualized treatment plan, teach them skills that they are lacking in a systematic way, monitor their progress through data collection, and provide multiple opportunities to practice those skills. Support is provided as the child generalizes skills into the natural environment and reaches independence. If a child displays behaviors that impede their learning or interfere with life within the family, we assess why they are engaging in those behaviors and teach replacement skills so that children can be successful in all environments. At the Journey Center, we first teach the learner a functional way to communicate. Communication is key to learning and is a primary focus so that a child can interact with family and friends in a meaningful way. Once this is established, we teach social skills, daily living skills, and academics.

Brittany’s journey with Journey Center is one that truly deserves to be celebrated. She has been with us since 2018, and over the years, she has grown in ways that are nothing short of inspiring.

She started as a BHT, showing up every day with determination, compassion, and a deep commitment to her clients. From there, Brittany earned her RBT, and eventually stepped into the role of Lead RBT, where she became a mentor others naturally looked to for guidance and support.🫶🏻

Brittany is, quite literally, a force to be reckoned with. Her drive, resilience, and heart for this work have carried her through each role and every challenge along the way. Earning her Behavior Specialist Licensure is a huge milestone, but it’s also a reflection of the years of dedication, growth, and passion she has poured into this field.

Now, as Brittany steps into her new role as a Behavior Consultant, we couldn’t be more proud. Our clients, families, and staff are incredibly lucky to have someone with her experience, leadership, and genuine care continuing this work. Brittany, congratulations this achievement is so well-earned, and we’re so excited to see where this next chapter takes you.👏🏻📊📉

We are beyond proud to celebrate Teagan for officially earning her Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)! This achievement reflects countless hours of hard work, supervision, and a true passion for making a meaningful difference in the lives of the individuals and families we serve!

When BCBA’s pass their exam, they are often asked what their “why” was to earn this achievement. Teagan was able to share her experience below:

“I knew early on in my previous jobs that I wanted a career where my work made a meaningful impact every single day. I didn’t want to feel disconnected from the purpose of what I was doing, I wanted to know that my effort truly mattered.

When I started at The Journey Center as a BHT, working directly with clients, everything changed. I was able to see firsthand how the treatment plans written by BCs and BCBAs were not just paperwork, but tools that genuinely changed children’s lives. I watched a non-verbal client begin to develop vocalizations and learn how to communicate. I saw challenging behaviors decrease as clients gained new skills and ways to express themselves.

Seeing that kind of progress made me want to be part of it in a deeper way. I decided to go back to school and learn as much as I could. For me, it was never about a title or climbing a ladder within a company. It was about growing my own skills so I could better support children as they learn, grow, and succeed in their own lives.

It was incredibly rewarding to see the hard work of the team result in such meaningful, positive change. Becoming a BCBA felt deeper than just earning a credential. It meant learning how to develop effective treatment, understanding behavior on a deeper level, and being able to share that knowledge with others. I wanted to support not only the children, but also the staff who work with them every day, those who care deeply about ABA and want to continue learning and growing.

At the heart of it, becoming a BCBA was about gaining knowledge so I could pour into the children, the staff, and the people around me. It was about doing the most I can to help the most, in the way I know how.”

We are incredibly proud to announce that one of our Behavior Consultants, Maggi Secrest passed her BCBA exam today! This is an extraordinary achievement and a milestone that reflects years of hard work, dedication, and passion for the field of Applied Behavior Analysis.

Maggi has been part of the Journey Center family since 2020, and from day one she has been a steady source of compassion, patience, and unwavering commitment to the children and families she serves. Her growth from therapist to Board Certified Behavior Analyst has been nothing short of inspiring.

When preparing for the BCBA exam, therapists are often asked about their “why.”
Today, Maggi shared hers, and it reflects exactly who she is as a professional and a person:

“My ‘why’ is rooted in the belief that meaningful change is possible, and that I have the privilege to help make it happen. I entered the field of ABA because I wanted to do work that mattered, to wake up every day with a purpose, but becoming a BCBA has deepened that. Little did I know, I was only scratching the surface.

My ‘why’ is the clients whose small steps become big victories, the families who finally feel supported, and the staff who grow in confidence and skill with the right guidance.

I’m driven by continuous learning and by never settling for ‘good enough’ because the individuals I serve deserve the most compassionate and effective care I can give.

This has proven to myself, and hopefully to others, that it’s never too late to start again, and that you’re capable of much more than you could ever imagine. Every new skill acquired and every challenge you work through becomes another tool that can change someone’s day, or even the trajectory of their life.”

Maggi, your Journey Center family is so proud of you.
You earned this. You deserve this.
And we can’t wait to see the incredible impact you’ll continue to make as a BCBA
