May 12th, 2015. My husband had just arrived home from work as we were sitting around the dining room table when his cell phone rang. I observed his face as he replied, “Yes, this is he.” A smile stretched across his face as he made eye contact with me and finished with saying, “yep, she’s right here.” My stomach dropped wondering if it could really be the phone call. At this point we had been waiting 3 years to be parents and started the adoption process 7 months prior. We were warned that the waiting period to be matched with an expected mother could be quite some time, so the thought of getting a phone call just weeks after our official “adoption profile” was live for expectant mothers to view was hard to believe. But – there we were hearing the words: You’ve been chosen by an expectant mother, and she’d like to meet you.

Precious Life started out of a borrowed office at the Knickerbocker all thanks to Anne! Her dedication to life allowed Precious Life to have its beginning 40 years ago. Prayers for the family as they mourn her loss. 🙏🏻

Anne Marie Zelnosky
October 1, 1937-October 23, 2025

Anne Marie Zelnosky, 88, of Duncansville, formerly of Altoona, passed away Thursday morning at The Winds at Mattern Orchard. She was born in Johnstown, the daughter of the late Michael and Serafina (Lizzio) Glova.
Anne married Richard J. Zelnosky on September 6, 1958, he preceded her in death on February 19, 2019.
She is survived by two sons: Scott Zelnosky (Sharon) of Hanover, MD and Mark Zelnosky (Kiersten) of Altoona; six daughters: Diane Gormley (Dale) of Altoona, Karen Lynn (Mark) of Altoona, Linda McMahon (Bill) of Wilmington, DE, Christine McKeon (Rich) of Duncansville, Kathleen Gracey (Steve) of Bedford and Jennifer Strawmier (Mike) of Altoona; 24 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Marguerite Hite (James) of Ebensburg and Rosemary Zenone of St. Benedict; a sister-in-law, Shirley Glova of St. Benedict; an “adopted” son, Thanh Nguyen; numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Anne was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan McKeon and 2 siblings: Barbara Gray and Michael Glova.
She was a graduate of John Carroll High School and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.
Anne retired as the executive secretary from Respect Life Office. She previously worked as a registered nurse at various locations.
Anne was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont.
She received the Solution of Hope Award, Mom’s House, Precious Life Award, and the PA Pro-Life Federation Appreciation Award. Anne was an Honorary Alumna of St. Francis University. She was a founding member of Citizens Concerned for Human Life and was a member of Italian Heritage Society, National Parents Commission and was an active member of the Republican Party.
Anne was a cantor at Mass, loved cooking Sunday dinners for her family and enjoyed traveling.
Friends will be received from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at The Stevens Mortuary, Inc., 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am, Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 344 Baynton Ave., Altoona, PA 16602, with Msgr. Michael Becker, celebrant.
Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
The family suggests that contributions be made in Anne’s memory to: Precious Life, 1716 12th Ave, Altoona, PA 16601 or Catholic Charities of Altoona/Johnstown, 1300 12th Avenue Altoona, PA 16601.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Winds and Pinnacle Hospice.

We are in immediate need of size 6 diapers and baby wipes! If you'd like to donate, they can be dropped off at our Altoona location or delivered to Precious Life, Inc., 12th Ave, Altoona, PA 16601.

We have one more weekend at Bedford Fall Foliage Festival and we can use volunteers to help us close out our fundraising season!

Bedford Fall Foliage Oct 11&12: We will have the Cheesesteak truck, and food tent serving chicken tenders, fries, cactus tators, ice tea, and lemonade. Show runs 9AM-5PM Saturday and Sunday both days. Shifts are 9AM-1PM and 1PM-5PM, but you are welcome to come at times it is convenient for your schedule.

We also need help setting up the tents Friday evening and tearing them down Sunday evening.
