Grief Share Provides Help and Encouragement for People Who Are Grieving

Of all the difficult things life throws at people, the death of a loved one is one of the hardest. Whether it’s a spouse, child, sibling, parent, or friend, learning to carry on without them can feel like an unreasonable burden. Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, Martha Road Baptist Church leadership began hearing about a grief support program called Grief Share. The Grief Share program is biblically based and is offered exclusively through churches. However, the program is non-denominational and open to people of all faiths or no faith.

Grief Share is a 13-week program designed specifically for people who have lost a loved one through death. It comprises instructional videos, a workbook with readings and exercises, and group sessions. Grief Share is facilitated and led by people who understand because they have also grieved the death of a loved one. The $30 workbook is the only expense, and participants are encouraged to participate as much as they would like at no additional cost.

The Martha Road Baptist Church Grief Share program will meet on Wednesday evenings at 6 PM beginning January 7, 2026 in Room 117 at Martha Road Baptist Church. Lyndel Bernard Shaw—known fondly as “Hooty” by any and all who crossed his path—passed from this life on Saturday, December 13, 2025. His tall tales, laughter, and magnetic smile will echo in the hearts of those who loved him.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 18th in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. A parking lot attendant will be available to assist with traffic flow. Guests attending the cemetery are kindly asked to line up for the funeral procession under the direction of the attendant. Additional parking is available at Western Sizzlin, north of the funeral home.

Carl Benton Reed, 88, longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 9, 2025. He will be missed by his beloved family, “for as long we see the morning sun”.
