Join Us for Somatic Chair Yoga at Chalice Abbey!

Whether you are new to yoga or currently practice, all are welcome to explore this mindful movement practice together with the intention to:

The term “somatic” comes from the Greek word soma, meaning “body,” and refers to practices that focus on internal bodily sensations, self-awareness, and the mind-body connection. Unlike conventional yoga that often emphasizes physical postures and alignment, somatic yoga places greater emphasis on internal experiences, mindfulness, and gentle movement. You can wear anything that is comfortable and allows you to move with ease.

One of the defining features of trauma is loss of choice over what happened to you, especially if traumatic experiences left you feeling trapped, helpless, or powerless. In trauma-informed toga therapy, you can choose whether or not to engage in a practice, you can decide how to move and breathe, and you can decide to end the practice at any time. Yoga is about coming home to your true nature, and invitational choice supports you in exploring and deciding what feels right for your whole self

Upcoming Workshop — Yoga & the Five Elements
In yoga, the five basic elements are earth, water, fire, air, and space/ether. They represent the physical and energetic qualities of the human body and of the physical world. Intentionally bringing each element into our yoga practice can help balance the body, mind, and spirit in profound ways

On February 1st from 10:30am-12:30pm, explore the five elements experientially through asana, breathing, meditation, and creative practices. Discover how reconnecting to nature can promote health and support wellness. Link in bio ☝🏼
