Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Heart Walk & Run! We were proud to highlight the lifesaving impact of The Cole Varnum Agency, including new AED donations made possible through Georgia HEART funds. We also recognized Charley Varnum for her leadership and heard from Dr. Jordan Simmons on the importance of AED access and heart‑healthy habits. Our Black History Month celebration continues! For Week 3, we’re honoring another remarkable trailblazer in Georgia’s medical history, a woman whose determination and resilience opened doors for generations to come. Born into slavery in Atlanta in 1862, Dr. Eliza Ann Grier worked her way through medical school by alternating each year between studying and picking cotton. In 1897, she earned her medical degree and became the first African American woman doctor in Thomasville, specializing in women and children’s health.
