Absolutely 🙌
A baby who is given only bland flavors will learn to like only bland flavors! And why would you restrict yourself AND them like that? Babies deserve to try every flavor and texture under the sun, and this helps them to ultimately accept a much wider variety of foods!
Bring on the big flavors! 🧄🧅🍄
When we assume babies won’t like a food and don’t serve it, we cut off the possibility of them learning to like it.
We’re talking about everyday foods that adults assume babies won’t like (onions, garlic, mushrooms, etc.)
Here’s the thing: Babies develop a taste for the foods they are served early on that they grow accustomed to. This is why, for example, babies in Japan might happily dig into grilled fish and natto for breakfast whereas babies in Northern Europe might enjoy Liver pâté on rye with equal pleasure.
Does this mean that baby will like ALL the foods you introduce forever? Of course not. They’re human. It’s okay to develop preferences. But in general, when consistently exposed to certain flavors in a given diet, children develop a taste for it.
You do not need to serve baby bland, textureless food. Bring on the spices (just start slowly) and add in the garlic and onions right from the start. You might just be surprised.
What food has your baby loved that you were surprised by?
