Adaptive Sports Iowa Sport and Recreation programming for Iowans with physical disabilities We all know the positive correlation between exercise and quality of life.

According to government figures, over 100,000 Iowa residents under the age of 64 have some form of physical disability. According to USA Paralympics, less then 10% of people with a physical disability participate in daily physical activity. According to the 2006 Chartbook, 35.2% of Iowa’s physically disabled population reports being in fair to poor health compared with only 5.9% of Iowan’s living

without a physical disability. It is because of all these statistics that the Iowa Sports Foundation started Adaptive Sports Iowa.

Join us in celebrating the inaugural National Adaptive Sport Day - April 28!

4.28 marks the anniversary of the signing of the regulations enforcing Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the landmark civil rights legislation that barred discrimination against people with disabilities in federally funded programs, including sports and recreation.

We're proud to celebrate Adaptive Sports today and every day.
