Meet Adam, our ICU Patient & Visitor Experience Intern at Mary Greeley. 👋

As a healthcare management student Iowa State University Ivy College of Business, Adam is working alongside our ICU team to help enhance the experience for patients and their loved ones.

“I was really interested in the internship because I wanted to experience what working in non-clinical healthcare is like in a hospital setting,” Adam said. “I wanted to see if this was something I’d be interested in long-term — and it confirmed that it is.”

Adam says working in such a fast-paced clinical environment has been a valuable part of the experience.

“I have been very grateful that my internship has been in such an intense clinical setting. I’ve gotten to see a lot of patient care and work on projects that helped me learn medical terminology and practices,” he shared. “Everyone has been very patient and willing to explain things I don’t understand, which has given me the confidence to ask questions and keep learning.”

One project he’s especially proud of was helping improve the unit’s patient rounding process.

“With the new format and reports, leadership can now track trends and feedback from patients every day,” Adam said. “Seeing the finished result being used by the lead nurses has been extremely rewarding.”

💬 Adam’s manager shared:

“Having a healthcare management student in the ICCU has brought such a refreshing perspective. Adam approaches our work from a non-clinical lens, which allows him to see opportunities and gaps that those of us closest to the bedside might miss. He’s taken on several long-standing projects and moved them forward quickly, and his focus on improving the patient and visitor experience has truly strengthened our unit.”

We’re grateful for the perspective and impact Adam has brought to our ICU team, and we’re equally thankful to The Mary Greeley Foundation for supporting our student experience and helping us shape the future of healthcare. 💙

The Mary Greeley Nurse Honor Guard paid tribute to Phyllis Crouse at her service on Tuesday, 3/10/2026. Phyllis devoted her life to nursing. At Mary Greeley Medical Center, she served in a variety of roles at the staff, supervisory, and administrative levels. Phyllis also helped to develop and introduce the Prime Time Alive program for seniors, and her impact at Mary Greeley continues through the Phyllis E Crouse Nursing Legacy Scholarship, through the Mary Greeley Foundation. Phyllis was a firm believer in lifelong learning and participated in numerous professional nurse organizations at the local, state, and national levels. We were honored to provide her with the Nightingale tribute and final call to duty.

Thanks, Phyllis, for your service. Rest in peace. We will carry on from here.
