Congrats to Jesse Howard, this month’s PRIDE Award winner!

Jesse went above and beyond to honor a former hospice patient who had no one to attend her inurnment. He brought flowers and read a passage from Psalms that had comforted her during her time at Israel Family Hospice House.

Jesse shared: “She was a person… I’m just glad she gets to be celebrated.”

🎉 Celebrating 109 Years of Care! 🎉

On December 22, 1916, Mary Greeley Memorial Hospital opened its doors with just 30 patient rooms and a sunny solarium on each floor. Today, we’ve grown into a 220-bed hospital serving a 14-county region in central Iowa—and we’re still guided by the same mission of exceptional care.

✨ A Glimpse Back:
Opening day drew hundreds of visitors, and the local paper called us “a bright, good-natured, humanely comforting oasis with a mission to radiate health and happiness.”

Our first patient? J.H. Schantz, an Iowa State veterinary student from Villisca. Within two weeks, we cared for 27 patients—quickly filling every floor.

The Mary Greeley Nurse Honor Guard paid tribute to Teri Elliott at her visitation on Tuesday, 12/9/2025. Teri worked as a Registered Nurse at McFarland Clinic where she worked alongside Dr Richard Carano in endocrinology for 34 years. We were honored to provide her with the Nightingale tribute and final call of duty. Thanks, Teri, for your service. Rest in peace. We will carry on from here.


The nurses serving were Susan Bartsch, Kris Franken, Kristi Perrin, Wendy Rindels, Janelle Matter and Anita Ley.

“What has more wall space than a hospital?” was a question Morley Hegstrom heard her mother, Dee, ask often. Inspired by that wall space, Dee was instrumental growing the art program at Mary Greeley—and Morley offers vital financial support in her honor.

Today, donors like Morley keep our galleries fresh and our spaces welcoming for patients and families.
