I wanted to take a moment to highlight a fellow LMT, Aidan Wimmer.
He recently graduated from PCI here in Ames, and is currently working at Ames Spine and Sport. I asked him to write a little 'blerp' before I left, so that I could share in his words, what he hopes to accomplish for his clients during their treatments.

"I love doing slow deep tissue, and firm pressure massage. Working out small trigger points in the muscle and lengthening body tissues will always feel rewarding... I like using cupping and hot stones as extra tools with my therapeutic approach, in hopes to create lasting results. For athletes, gym goers, or if you have a specific muscle pain, we can create a targeted approach to hopefully relieve some pain and assist with the healing process. I also like using the bodys natural range of motion to reach muscles previously not accessable or to stretch a specific muscle group. IF you are feeling stressed out from life, I can also do a relaxing whole body massage with lighter pressure."

Aidan is like a sponge. He is ready to learn and grow, and soak up all of the comments, compliments and suggestions that come his way. He stepped into this profession ready to face the immediate stigma and bias that unfortunately comes with being a male in this industry.
I would love to hear about your experiences with him, so give him a try!!

I am at the end of the first two weeks of working as a solo Massage Therapist.
It feels GOOD! Mobile massage has been working much better than I could have hoped, and I have rediscovered the fun and enjoyment I used to get from doing bodywork. Something I thought had been over-worked out of my soul a long time ago.
I am feeling more pride and accomplishment in myself, and the excitement of a fuller future is pulling me forward.
I *might* have an office space. I am waiting for the realtor to get caught up with a few things, then hopefully we can move forward with that.
I am over 60% finished with studying for the CPT (Certified Personal Trainer) test, then hopefully by the end of January 2026, I will have taken and passed that exam.
Big things are happening, and you all get to be a part of it!

I have always approached massage therapy with caution when it comes to the potential of mental and emotional trauma.
As a very young child-less than two years old-I endured prolonged amounts of violence on many levels, and have to work hard to deal with the aftermath on a near-daily basis.
In massage school, I gave a massage to a friend who was stressed about an interview the next day. Against what I had learned in massage 101, I wore a scented lotion. That scent of the lotion triggered a deep feeling of pain in this friend, who that night self-harmed.
That was 19 years ago.
I want my treatments to offer safety and security to anyone who has survived traumas that have left hidden scars woven into the fibers of their muscles. Any essential oil, touch, conversation, draping and even music could be the one thing that brings back a memory attached to a horrible event.
I hope that you have been able to trust me to keep you safe.

Intake Forms: Why LMTs Need to Know So Much

A medical intake form must be completed before a professional Massage Therapist can begin
hands-on treatment.
The information requested ranges from a few simple questions regarding massage frequency
and reason for seeking massage, to in-depth past and current health and medical history.
A typical Massage therapy intake form should ask for contact information, current reason for
seeking massage therapy, Lists of medications, health and medical history, and emergency
contacts including spouse, family, and/or doctors.
Most LMTs use multiple massage modalities and tools during their sessions. Some of these are
*contraindicated if a client has certain medical issues or is taking certain medications.
Your contact information is needed for sending thank-you/seasonal/personal cards and business
info, and for billing purposes if needed.

Health and medical history including injuries, illness, diseases, disorders, or any diagnosis is
needed to help your LMT create a safe and effective plan for your massage therapy session.
HIPA regulations do not allow your information to be used for unintended purposes.

Some diagnosis can be contraindicated for certain massage modalities and/or applications.
A list of medications is needed in case you have a medical emergency while at your massage
appointment. ESPECIALLY if you have recently started or stopped a medication, and may be
unfamiliar with side effects. If we have a list of your meds/supplements, we can hand it to EMTs
or first responders, to help them be more efficient in their care.
Massage Therapists are licensed to manipulate and treat problems in the soft tissue, but are not
allowed to diagnose or prescribe meds or supplements. If there are concerns or questions, your LMT should refer you to an appropriate medical professional.
It is important for your health and safety, as well as the safety and licensure of your Massage
Therapist.
The intake form can be used as a legal medical form, so it is important that you fill out your
intake forms completely and truthfully.

Intake Forms should be updated every 12 months, or when significant changes have occurred .

*contraindicated: not safe for massage

This isn't massage related, but the Northern Lights are visible and if you are able to, I highly recommend that you drop what you are doing and find a dark country road.
I am feeling some sort of emotion that I've never felt before, and it's very interesting.
What a beautiful early Birthday gift from mother nature.

Officially, big things are happening.
Saturday November 7th will be my last day working as an employee. I have made the terrifying and exciting decision to jump straight into the world of self-employment and mobile massage. As of right now, I am keeping my clients list short and made up of those who have followed me from my previous three employers.
At some point, I hope to find a small space to rent and root into, but that will come sometime next year.
Also, for the last three months, I have been taking online classes through the National Academy of Sports Medicine for Personal Training, Nutrition Coaching, and Corrective Exercises Specialist.
I hope to incorporate my new knowledge and training as soon as I have the credentials and the space to do so.
Any appointments you have with me at Ames Spine and Sport will be canceled by the front desk within the next few weeks, but I strongly urge you to consider giving Aiden a chance.
Aiden graduated from PCI a little over three months ago and has been getting amazing reviews. He deserves to have a full schedule, so I hope you give him a try.
I am truly grateful for each and every one of you.
Send me a message if you have any questions!
Best wishes,
Kristina

What happens after your session?
Flipping my treatment room has always been very ritualistic for me.
Clean and sanitize all surfaces and tools, switching out dirty linens and replacing with clean, vacuuming when needed.
Even my lotion bottles and the drawer/hooks where your belongings are stored are sprayed and wiped.
Your experience with me doesn't start when I touch you, but as soon as you come into my room.
I hope you feel welcome!
