MotivateĀ® was born out of a love for coming alongside people and helping them achieve their health and wellness goals. I found barre after son #3...and became stronger and more balanced than I had ever been in all my years in competitive sports. I fell in love and needed to share it with everyone willing to listen and partake. If you are looking for a true community of people who are kind, genuine, and like to work hard...MotivateĀ® is it.

It is stories like Vicky’s that encourage us to always balance our movement practices with significant strength training.

ā€œI cannot say enough great things about Motivate! I found my way to them by accident - so to speak. Even though I have several friends who have been raving about the classes at Motivate for years, I was content with my walking & yoga. Then I fell off of a ladder in the spring of 2025 & broke 2 bones in my wrist & 1 in my leg. It was a long hard recovery from the surgery & I felt overwhelmed by the muscle atrophy. By Sept, I was discharged by PT/OT & incorporating some walks and yoga, to the best of my ability, but it wasn’t serving me the way it was before - physically, mentally or spiritually. Simultaneously, my previous diagnosis of osteopenia was changed to osteoporosis. I needed something different I wanted to try Motivate, but was also afraid. I sent an email & to my surprise got a phone call from Meghan, the owner, the very next day. She gave me 30 minutes of her time & shared the variety of classes & range of ages & abilities of the clientele. Meghan explained that Motivate had a trial offer & while she thought that would work for me, she also offered info on a personal training option. I chose to do (4) 1:1 sessions with Stephanie. She was amazing and it boosted my confidence. I could trust my 59-year-old body again! I did the two week trial & then jumped in with 2 feet. Every Sunday night, I sit down and schedule 2 to 3 classes for the upcoming week. My health is my priority. My cup is full again and I am feeling strong again. Walking and Yoga bring me joy again. I’m not 100% yet & I modify in the classes - as do many. I use lower weights or no weights while I build my endurance and nobody cares. It’s great to be part of a community where I feel safe to work on being the best version of me at my pace.ā€

Salsa 101 is a four-week beginner series designed to teach you the foundational steps, timing, and partner basics of salsa in a fun, welcoming, no-pressure environment.

Over four consecutive Thursdays, you’ll:

We took Motivate to the woods this weekend for our Annual Instructor Holiday Retreat.🧔

No mics.
No playlists.
No class counts.

Just fresh air, belly laughs, deep talks, felt more like a strange gaggle of cousins who somehow found each other through movement.

When your instructors genuinely like each other…
you can feel it in every single class.

Motivate’s Story

MotivateĀ® Mission: MotivateĀ® strives to inspire you to become stronger and healthier through thoughtful movement, nutrition and community in order to enhance the vibrancy and longevity of your life.

MotivateĀ® was born out of a love of community and of coming alongside people to help them achieve their health and wellness goals. I found barre after son #3. I found it during a time of my life when I felt overwhelmed and depleted. It gave me some much-needed ME time. A byproduct was that in the process of taking a few classes a week, I became stronger and more balanced than I had ever been in all my years in competitive sports. I fell in love and needed to share it with everyone willing to listen and partake.

After teaching in Newburyport for about 8 years, I made the entrepreneurial leap to open my own studio. I found a dear spot in downtown Newburyport which made it even sweeter. The ability to take class and then walk a few paces to grab coffee or a fresh-pressed juice...or a glass of wine :-), created the sense of local community that I desired. It also as mimicked the feel of the studio where my love of barre began. It came full circle.

Adding the cardio and cycle...and most recently, nutrition coaching to the studio only made it sweeter, sweatier, and more well rounded. You can find everything here...strength and length as well as shred and sweat. And you get it all in a smaller instructor-client ratio to ensure sound form and personal attention. Our instructors are trained and certified in barre as it was originally intended: as a dynamic, full-body, joint-safe workout that strengthens and stretches all the major muscle groups in the body that originates in the Lotte Berk Method. MotivateĀ® Barre is set to fun and upbeat music and combines ballet barre work, core conditioning, yoga, Pilates, and orthopedic exercises. The controlled movements are very focused, effective, and safe. (No coordination is necessary.) Proper alignment and form is the primary focus. Hands-on adjustments are built into class to take each client to their personal best. Incorporated into each session are active stretches to develop more toned, sculpted, lengthened, and supple muscles. The entire body and mind are constantly working throughout each session. Every position is cued to properly achieve and maintain core engagement. Through this process, your body, posture, and physical awareness will be transformed. No area of the body is left undiscovered in a barre class.
