Thank God April Fools’ Day is finally over. We can all get back to serious, normal business.

Like the fact that our crew worked 24/7 this weekend to add a second and third floor to our office. Rapid expansion, no big deal. Try to keep up.

We’ve also launched our brand-new fleet of rooftop delivery drones. These bad boys will have your glasses and contacts at your door in minutes. Efficiency? Innovation? Mildly concerning air traffic situation? Yes.

Top-notch service is our mission, and we will stop at nothing (including basic realism) to achieve it.

Anyway… it’s not midnight yet.

April Fools. Again. Probably for the 10th time today.

Well… what a day.

It all started with a Bud Light truck absolutely failing to negotiate the turn in front of our building and deciding to enter Foley Vision Center like it owned the place. Not ideal, but we adapt.

After some intense negotiations (and possibly some light begging), we reached an agreement with Anheuser-Busch to provide our patients and staff with an unlimited supply of kegs until I retire. So… I guess I can never retire now.

We were eventually able to get the police officer to calm down, and things really picked up from there. We had a steady stream of people stopping by for a complimentary cup. Some stayed a while… some stayed all day. A few may still be here. I genuinely can’t lock the door at this point, so we’re just seeing how it plays out.

Thankfully, my attorney whipped up a quick waiver of liability form in case things go… let’s say ā€œsouth.ā€ Always good to stay professional.

By closing time, we had a very lively group enjoying our fresh ā€œinventory,ā€ and the energy was unmatched. Things are really looking up at Foley Vision Center.

If you’ve made it this far, congratulations—you’ve been successfully fooled. This is all a complete fabrication (no need to call anyone, including the police or DCF), and we are very much still a normal eye care office!

Happy April Fools’ Day šŸ‘€

I think it’s finally time to come clean.

After nearly 25 years working as an optometrist, I’ve decided to make a major career change. The NYPD has officially recruited me for some real action.

Apparently, word got around about my elite investigative skills:
• Tracking down what insurance actually covers (no small feat)
• Identifying patients who are 100% sleeping in their contacts
• And, of course, apprehending the highly elusive ā€œcopay skippersā€ before they make it out the door

Honestly, I’ve been doing detective work this whole time. The badge just makes it official.

For full transparency, this isn’t my first time working with them. I did a little moonlighting back around 2012. That photo you see is real—out there on the streets, making a difference.

But I couldn’t stay away from eyeballs forever. It’s a calling. A weird, very specific calling.

Now, 14 years later, duty calls again. And this time, I’m answering.

Exhibit A from my brief undercover work with NYPD back in 2012:

Already out there making a difference—bringing in a highly suspicious individual who thought he could outsmart the system. Unfortunately for him, I had been training for this moment my entire life (mostly by standing around looking official).

You can see my advanced interrogation technique here: calm posture, subtle pointing, and absolutely no idea what I was going to do next.

The suspect eventually cooperated, likely due to my overwhelming authority and the fact that I was wearing a NYPD shirt I bought in Times Square.

Some people are born for this line of work. Others just stumble into it and commit to the bit way too hard.

To everyone who actually read all of this nonsense—Happy April Fools’ Day.

The only real part of this post is the picture of me in NYC in 2012 (really!). Everything else is, unfortunately, not part of my heroic law enforcement career. 🤣🤣

Well… this is not how we planned to start the day.

A Bud Light 18-wheeler apparently decided that the turn in front of our office was more of a ā€œsuggestionā€ than a rule, and proceeded to enter Foley Vision Center like it had an appointment.

Long story short, the building inspector is calling the structure ā€œunsafe,ā€ which feels a bit dramatic considering we could probably buff out most of the damage to the entryway with some elbow grease and optimism (I call it optomitism).

Unfortunately, there is now a very serious police officer stationed at the front who insists that ā€œno one is coming in.ā€ I even offered him a free pair of Ray-Ban Metas… still no cooperation. Tough crowd.

BUT—because we are nothing if not committed—we will be temporarily moving operations to the back parking lot. Eye exams will continue under a tarp (weather permitting… or not, we’re flexible).

On the bright side, Anheuser-Busch has graciously agreed to supply us with a lifetime supply of kegs. We’ll be removing the water dispenser and installing a kegerator system for staff and patients. Hydration is important.

As always, positive changes are happening at Foley Vision Center.

See you in the parking lot šŸ‘€

APRIL FOOLS!!! 🤣🤣

Only in optometry… šŸ¤ÆšŸ‘ļø

Yesterday I spotted a rogue eyelash chilling on a patient’s lower eyelid. He had NO idea it was there—but the slit lamp caught it immediately.

So I grab a Q-tip, remove it like a pro… easy.

BUT THEN…

The eyelash falls onto my index finger (the one controlling the slit lamp)… and I kid you not…

It lands PERFECTLY upright
Dead center on my fingertip
Standing straight up like it just defied gravity

And it stayed there. For like 10 seconds. Just… standing there.

Long enough for me, the patient, and my assistant Ryan to all stare at it like:
ā€œIs this real life??ā€

I’ve been doing this a long time… and I couldn’t recreate that if you gave me 1,000 tries and a slow-motion camera.

Now here’s where it gets even weirder…

Yesterday would have been my dad’s 87th birthday.

Coincidence? Maybe.
Or maybe Dad stopped by to mess with me a little šŸ˜…

Naturally, I looked at the patient and asked:
ā€œAre you an alien?ā€ šŸ‘½

Still waiting on that answer… 🤣

Soooo weird!! šŸ”„

I had the chance to represent SiVIEW, a fully AI-powered refraction system that I’ve been using in my office for the past 4 months—and the technology is absolutely incredible.

When I started optometry school in 1999, I remember thinking about technology like this and saying to myself, ā€œThere’s no way something like that will exist in my lifetime.ā€

Fast forward to 2026… and here we are. The future of eye care is here, and it’s amazing to actually be using it in daily practice.

šŸ“ Great visit at Booth 3300. We were delighted to welcome Matthew Foley, OD to our booth at Vision Expo. Dr. Foley is one of the pioneers shaping the future of optometric practice, leveraging technology to deliver the best possible care for his patients while continuously improving how eye exams ...
