In service to our East Side neighbors, we at WNY Postpartum Connection wanted to find ways to help. In recognizing that the Tops on Jefferson and Riley was a place where people in the community not only shopped for food but had access to diapers, we see there may be a crisis in accessing diapers and other diapering supplies. We've connected with Every Bottom Covered, Inc. for a diaper drive. We'll be actively collecting diapers, wipes, cream, bags, etc from today until at least May 27. We have 2 primary drop off locations in the Southtowns and Northtowns but will pick up donations, too. So if you want to start a drive/collection, let us know and we can pick up from you and deliver to EBC.
Monetary donations are also gratefully received as this crisis may go on for an indefinite amount of time. Donations can be made: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/everybottomcovered
We're happy to take cash donations to give to EBC as well.

Postpartum Depression affects at least one in 7 women, and one in 10 men. It's way more common than many realize. Luckily with the right help it is very treatable and temporary. Find help at wnypostpartum.com

An important read

The truth is, anger—real, fist-clenching, heart-racing, uncontrollable anger—is so much more common among mothers than many of us think.

12/09/2020

In Lauren Brody's book, The Fifth Trimester, she stops for a second to talk about "mommy guilt." When interviewing numerous women for the book, "guilt" was brought up every single time.
*
"Guilt meant wildy different things to different mothers. There were those who said they "felt guilty" because they ached to hold their babies and worried that they'd left them, unsoothed, in less capable hands. Then there were others who luxuriated in the freedom of the office - the air conditioning, the lovely bottled water, the intelligent conversations, the almost-forgotten bliss of being alone in their own skin."
*
"Guilt" by definition implies a feeling of "should", a comparison between you and some other supposedly better parent or better worker or better decision you could have made. But if all of us working moms are feeling guilt in some form there is actually nothing to compare here."
*
"We're all in the muck of it. There is no other, better less-guilty working mom to aspire to be. So what if we just cancel guilt out entirely, like some ugly common denominator? Banish guilt."
*
Amen. If you're returning to work and haven't read The Fifth Trimester yet, buy it immediately via link in our bio! This book was like therapy for us and has so much advice on the return to work for mom. We're all in this together.
