I came across these old newspaper articles and photos and felt like I had to share them.

The kid in these pictures lost his leg at 4 years old.

That kid is me.

Back then, there wasn’t social media or any kind of spotlight. It was just day-to-day life, figuring things out as I went. Learning how to move, how to compete, and how to keep up without expecting anyone to feel sorry for me.

These pictures show basketball, baseball, even golf. Not because it was easy, but because sitting on the sidelines was never really an option.

I won’t pretend it’s been a perfect journey. There were struggles, setbacks, and plenty of days where quitting would have been easier.
But you keep going. That’s really what it comes down to.
You don’t have to be the best or the strongest. You just have to keep showing up.

If you’re early in your journey or going through a tough stretch right now, just know this… you’re not done. You’re still building your story.
And one day, you’ll look back and realize you made it through more than you ever thought you could

We’re proud to support the Northeast Ohio Amputee Support Group and even more excited to share that our own Toledo CPO, Bryan Sculthorpe, will be the guest speaker at the next meeting.

Bryan brings a unique background with 16 years in physical therapy along with his prosthetic expertise, and he’s focusing on a topic every amputee needs to hear:

“The 10 Best Ways You Can Help Yourself”

Insurance only covers so many PT and OT visits. The real question is… what happens when those visits run out?

That’s exactly what Bryan will be breaking down. Practical, real-world ways to keep progressing, stay strong, and take control of your mobility whether you’re waiting for your prosthesis or continuing your journey long after therapy ends.

This is the kind of education that makes a difference.
Join us, bring your questions, and take something valuable home with you.

This was amazing to be a part of. Thank you to The Amputee Center for an awesome event and Blatchford for making sure all I had to worry about was having fun. It was even more special to get to show Vera a little about my work life and all the good that goes into that.

Our next Northeast Ohio Amputee Support Group meeting is coming up on Thursday, May 21st from 4–5 PM at the ProMedica Health and Wellness Center in Sylvania.

This month’s speaker is Certified Prosthetist Orthotist Bryan Sculthorpe, who also brings 16 years of experience in physical therapy. That combination is rare, and it matters.

Bryan is going to walk us through 10 of the best ways you can help yourself physically—especially during the times when you’re waiting for your prosthesis or when insurance has run out of PT and OT visits.

Let’s be real… insurance only covers so much. After that, it’s on us. The people who keep progressing are the ones who stay consistent, stay educated, and take ownership of their recovery.

This is exactly the kind of information that can make the difference between staying stuck and actually moving forward.

If you’re an amputee, caregiver, or clinician, this is a meeting you don’t want to miss.

Come learn. Ask questions. Be around people who understand what you’re going through.

We’ll have light refreshments, good conversation, and a room full of people working toward the same goal—getting better.

If you can’t make it in person, we’ll also have a virtual option available.

See you there.

Not every prosthetic is created equal. If you’re uncomfortable, unstable, or just not confident walking… that’s not something you “just live with.” That’s something you fix.

We see it all the time. People come in thinking their leg is the problem. Most of the time, it’s not the leg… it’s the fit.

If something feels off, trust that instinct. You deserve better.

This picture is with my buddy Terry.

Two weeks ago, he took home his first prosthesis. That’s it. Two weeks.

And he’s already putting in thousands of steps a day.

Let that sink in.

This stuff isn’t easy. The soreness, the frustration, learning how to trust your body again… most people don’t see that part. But Terry’s putting his head down and getting after it every single day.

That’s how you do it.

Keep putting in the work, Terry. You’re doing amazing and it shows.
