🧠 How CBT Supports Christian Counseling
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most well-researched counseling approaches—and it pairs beautifully with a biblical focus on renewing the mind (Romans 12:2).
📊 Did you know?
• A review of 144 clinical trials found CBT to be highly effective for depression and anxiety.
• People receiving CBT for anxiety are almost 3× more likely to improve compared to placebo treatments.
• Many clients maintain their progress for 12+ months after treatment.
CBT helps clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, replace them with truth, and build practical skills that lead to lasting change. It’s structured, effective, and aligns well with Christian counseling values.
If you’re seeking faith-based support with proven tools for healing, we’re here to help at Hope Counseling. 💛

This Ohio winter has felt long, cold, and gray. And for many people, the heaviness isn’t just about the weather — it’s emotional and physical too.
Seasonal changes can impact our mood, energy, sleep, and motivation. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a recognized form of depression that tends to show up during the darker winter months. Reduced sunlight can affect the brain chemicals that regulate mood, which means if you’re feeling more tired, down, or withdrawn lately, you’re not weak — you’re human.
But even in winter, there is hope.
God designed the seasons with purpose. Times of growth… and times of rest. Times of light… and times of waiting. The earth may look still, but it’s quietly renewing itself.
“For everything there is a season… a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.” – Ecclesiastes 3:1–2
Spring always comes. Light always returns.
While we wait, take gentle care of yourself:
❄️ Get outside on warmer days for fresh air and sunlight
📖 Spend time in God’s Word and prayer
☕ Enjoy simple, comforting hobbies
🤍 Invite friends from church to connect and not isolate
💬 Reach out for counseling support if the weight feels heavy
You don’t have to push through alone. God often brings healing through both community and wise support.
If you need extra care this season, Hope Counseling is here to walk alongside you. 🌿

❄️ Feeling the weight of winter? You’re not alone. ❄️
It’s been really cold for weeks now, and with shorter days, gray skies, and not much sunshine in sight, many people notice their mood dipping this time of year. If you’re feeling more tired than usual, unmotivated, down, or just not quite like yourself, it could be more than “winter blues.”
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a real and treatable form of depression that often shows up during the darker months. Clinically, we know that reduced sunlight can impact sleep, energy, and brain chemistry. Emotionally and spiritually, the heaviness can make hope feel distant too.
At Hope Counseling, we care for the whole person—mind, body, and soul. Through evidence-based therapy and faith-centered support, we help you build practical tools, renew your thinking, and hold onto truth even when the days feel long and cold. 🩵
If this season feels especially hard, you don’t have to push through alone. Reaching out is a strong and healthy first step.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5✨
Stay warm, take gentle care of yourself, and let us know how we can walk alongside you.

Stress doesn’t just affect how we feel — it impacts our mind, body, and soul 🧠❤️
When stress is ongoing, it can influence our focus, emotions, physical health, and overall well-being. The good news? Stress does not define your worth or your future. God sees the weight you carry and meets you with compassion and grace. ✝️
We recently shared a blog post exploring how stress affects us and why caring for it matters — both scientifically and biblically.
You don’t have to walk through stress alone. Hope is available. 🩵

🌟🎄 Christmas Eve Reflections 🎄🌟
On this holy night, we rejoice in the promise fulfilled through the birth of our Savior. Scripture reminds us:
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. -Isaiah 9:6
At Hope Counseling, we pray that the light of Christ fills your home tonight—bringing peace to weary hearts, comfort to those who are hurting, and joy to every soul seeking hope. ✨
May His presence be your strength and your peace this Christmas Eve.

We Are Changing Our Name And Adding Counselors To Serve You!
We have some exciting news! Good news is always best in the form of a story, so we wanted to give you some background to what is happening.
For years Christy Samms, LPCC-S has been seeing clients in Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties. A few years ago she started her own practice, Christy Samms Counseling and Consultation Services off Oak Point Road on the Lorain/Amherst border. She rented an office and got her husband to create a website send out some referral letters, and market her counseling services.
Business quickly grew as word got out about Christy’s counseling. She started with a goal to see ten clients a week, but that ten clients per week quickly turned into 15 or 2o! After about a year, Christy was at capacity and was having to turn clients away. Sometimes as many as 2 potential clients per day would have to be turned away simply because we didn’t have any more capacity.
Clearly, the practice needed to expand.
It so happens that Christy’s husband, Daniel (me) is a marketing and business growth consultant. After a few conversations about Christy’s long-term vision for the practice, we (she and I) developed a plan to bring that vision into reality.
We are initiating two key steps for that plan right now.
We have changed the name of the practice from “Christy Samms Counseling and Consultation Services” to “Hope Counseling and Consultation Services.” The name has two purposes. First, we wanted a name that reflected the fact Christy is not the only counselor. Second, we want to send the message that wholeness is possible. There is always hope. That’s why we are here.
We are hiring more counselors! The vision for Hope Counseling is about more than just expansion. We want to grow in quality as we expand our capacity. We want counselors that share our vision and values, licensed consolers with unique skill sets to provide premium care to our clients. So, we have taken great care in selecting our first new hire. You’ll find out about that person soon. For now, we just want you to know we are hiring, and that we are committed to hiring only counselors that bring the same level of quality care Christy has been providing for years.
We still have some really exciting news to share, but we’re saving that for the next story. For now, have a look at our new website https://hopecounselingcs.com/ and help us spread the word!
