❌ Myth: “I just need to do more Kegels.”
✔️ Fact: Kegels are not a one-size-fits-all fix—and for many people, they actually make symptoms worse. A pelvic floor that’s too tight or overactive can cause leakage, pelvic pain, constipation, urgency, and discomfort with exercise or intimacy. In these cases, tightening even more with Kegels can increase symptoms because the muscles need to relax and coordinate, not just strengthen.

A pelvic floor physical therapist can determine whether you need relaxation, lengthening, coordination training, strengthening, or a combination. Everyone’s pelvic floor needs are different, and your treatment should be too. And for our Louisiana patients—no doctor referral is required for most insurances, so you can get scheduled with a therapist right away and get the right plan for your body.

❌ Myth: “Leaks are just part of getting older.”
✔️ Fact: Leakage is common, but it is not a normal or unavoidable part of aging.

A lot of people quietly assume bladder leakage is something they just have to accept as the years go by—but that’s simply not true. Aging does not mean you lose control of your bladder or have to rely on pads for the rest of your life.

Here’s what’s really going on:

🔸 The pelvic floor—just like any other muscle group—can change over time, especially with hormonal shifts, past injuries, childbirth, surgeries, or chronic habits like coughing, lifting, or straining.

🔸 But the good news? Muscles can be retrained at ANY age.
Your bladder, core, and pelvic floor respond extremely well to targeted exercise, breathing strategies, posture changes, and manual therapy.

🔸 Many people over 50 experience leakage simply because the pelvic floor has gotten weaker, tighter, or less coordinated—not because their bladder is “broken.”

🔸 With the right assessment and treatment, hundreds of patients regain control, reduce or eliminate leakage, and feel confident moving through daily life again.

So no—you don’t have to:
• wear pads everywhere
• avoid long outings
• rush to the bathroom “just in case”
• wake up multiple times a night
• or chalk it up to “getting older”

Pelvic floor physical therapy is a safe, natural, and effective way to improve bladder control at any age.

And for our Louisiana patients: no doctor referral is required for most insurances, which means you can schedule with a therapist right away and start taking back your confidence and comfort. 💛

You deserve to live leak-free—at every stage of life.

If you’ve never heard of lymphedema therapy — you’re not alone! Many people don’t know what it is or how it can help.

**Lymphedema therapy** is a specialized form of care that helps manage swelling in the arms, legs, or other areas of the body. This swelling often happens when the lymphatic system isn’t working the way it should due to surgery, cancer treatment, injury, or chronic conditions.

A certified lymphedema therapist can help by using:
• Gentle manual lymph drainage
• Compression wraps or garments
• Skin care and swelling prevention
• Exercises to improve circulation
• Education to help you manage symptoms at home

The goal? **Reduce swelling, improve comfort, and help you move through life with less pain and more confidence.**

At Professional Physical Therapy Clinic, we’re proud to offer **lymphedema therapy as a specialty service**, with **two certified lymphedema therapists on staff** who are dedicated to supporting your individual needs and creating a treatment plan that fits *you*.

If you’ve noticed persistent swelling or heaviness that doesn’t go away, lymphedema therapy may be the answer you didn’t know existed. We’re here to help!
