🌟PATIENT SPOTLIGHT🌟
“Prior to coming to BreakThrough, I had found out I was about to have MPFL (Medial Patellofemoral Ligament) knee surgery. My knee had popped out of place twice, and I knew I had many challenges ahead I would have to face.
After surgery, I spent several months relearning how to walk, gaining back full quad strength, and getting my knee to be able to fully bend. Along the way, the struggle was real and hard at the time, but I had the best therapists by my side the entire time, believing in me and helping me get back to a normal day of life that includes lifting weights, playing softball, working out, etc. After being released, I am stronger than I was before and more confident in my ability to play than I have been in a very long time, due to the many hours I spent at BreakThrough.
The best part about going to BreakThrough is easily all of the therapists taht work hard to get you back to full strength and fully believe in you the entire time. There were many days that I thought I would never get through my recovery, but they always pushed me to my full potential and showed me that I had the ability to do anything I wanted to do. Each person there from the receptionist to all of the therapists mean something special to me. I could not have picked a better place to do my physical therapy at.”

6:00 AM at BreakThrough 💪

This morning looked a lot like most mornings around here. Athletes getting work in before school practice later today. Adults getting their therapy in before an 8–5 job. And a few early risers who just like starting their day by taking care of themselves.

People ask us all the time, “Do people really come at 6am?”

They do. Because sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

Busy schedules, practices, work, kids, life. Not everyone can make it during the middle of the day. That’s why we open early and stay flexible. We want to make sure there’s a time that fits real life.

If getting better means waking up a little earlier, this group proves every morning that it’s worth it.

So proud to celebrate Audrey Dozier and Anna Brooke Rogers, recipients of the BreakThrough Physical Therapy scholarships at the Amory Junior Auxiliary Charity Ball.

We absolutely love this event and the opportunity to support such hardworking, driven young women. It means even more to have one of our own therapists, Nikki Fly, there with them to celebrate this special night.

Audrey and Anna Brooke, we are excited to watch what the future holds for you both and honored to be a small part of your journey. 💙

Jumping into the weekend the right way! Last week we shared right ACL strength work. This reel highlights a different athlete after left ACL surgery, now progressing into power and landing mechanics with repeated broad jumps. Explosiveness, eccentric landing mechanics, and force absorption are key pieces of the return-to-sport progression. Choosing sports physical therapists who understand athletic movement is the difference between returning to play and returning ready to play!

“I have always had a passion for sports, and I am sure I have played them all. Until two years ago when things changed. I was 11 years old when I broke and dislocated my hip playing football. After that accident, I had numerous dislocations that led to me having two reconstructive hip surgeries in just two months. The pain got worse with each day, and my hip was steadily deteriorating.

In May of this year, I was finally able to have a total hip replacement. That’s when things started looking up. My doctor referred me to BreakThrough Physical Therapy for their Return to Sports Program. We had one goal- to play baseball again. After just one session, I knew this is where I needed to be. Two months in, and I was running again. I hadn’t done that in over two years. I have no more pain, my balance is better, my limp is almost gone, and I can feel myself getting stronger each week.

Looking back, there was a time when sports wasn’t even going to be an option for my future. I am not looking forward to playing baseball in the spring for my final year of middle school. If I could say one thing, it’s this: THANK YOU BREAKTHROUGH! Thank you for believing in me, motivating me, never letting me give up, and helping me get my life back!"

🏐⚾ Diagnosis of the Month: Overhead Athletes 🏀🎾

At Breakthrough Physical Therapy, we love working with overhead athletes— including baseball and softball players, volleyball players, tennis players, swimmers, and anyone whose sport requires repeated overhead motion.

Overhead athletes place high demands on the shoulder, elbow, and upper body. Without proper strength, mobility, and mechanics, these repetitive movements can lead to injury over time.

🚨 Signs & Symptoms to Watch For:
✔️ Shoulder or elbow pain during or after activity
✔️ Decreased throwing or hitting velocity
✔️ Loss of range of motion
✔️ Pain with overhead movements
✔️ Fatigue, stiffness, or instability in the shoulder
✔️ Changes in mechanics or performance

If left untreated, small issues can turn into bigger setbacks — that’s where physical therapy plays a key role.

💪 Our Physical Therapy Approach:
Treatment is individualized and focused on the entire kinetic chain. Our process often includes:
• Improving shoulder and thoracic mobility
• Strengthening the rotator cuff and scapular muscles
• Core and lower-body strength
• Movement and mechanics assessment
• Sport-specific progressions
• Return-to-throw or return-to-play guidance

This is a population we truly enjoy treating. Watching athletes regain confidence, improve performance, and safely return to the sport they love is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do at Breakthrough.

If you’re an overhead athlete experiencing pain or have questions about injury prevention or recovery, we’re here to help.
