Island Health Foundation Island Health Foundation's mission is to raise funds for Island Hospital and its commitment to community health.

Since 1978, the Island Health Foundation has been leveraging philanthropy to transform the health and wellness of your community through the programs and services of Island Health System (formerly Island Hospital). Affectionately known as the Foundation, the Foundation extends opportunities to community members, service clubs and corporations alike to financially invest in the delivery of award-winning, top-notch healthcare in Anacortes and the surrounding region. This community investment ensures Island Health remains a local, independent, publicly-funded health system. The Foundation, therefore, serves as a financial resource for enhancing medical care through new technology and equipment, expanding critical programs like mental health services and community health education opportunities. As a registered 501(c)3 non-profit, the Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of up to 21 volunteer community leaders. The role of the Board of Directors is to provide fiscal oversight and stewardship, set policies and goals, as well as fundraise for the organization to fulfill its mission. The Board of Directors works closely with Island Health’s senior leaders to identify funding needs for which philanthropy can make a transformative impact. The Island Health Foundation is proud to be serving our community for over 40 years.

As 2025 comes to a close, our hearts are full.

Your generosity helped make this an extraordinary year for Island Health Foundation — opening new specialty clinics, expanding mental health and community programs, securing a DaVinci 5 surgical robot, and raising nearly $200,000 for critical imaging equipment through our holiday campaign.

Island Health also received its 4th straight 5-Star CMS rating, placing us among the top hospitals in the nation. As Daryl Hicks, RN, shares in the video below, this achievement reflects our community — strong, caring, and committed.

Commissioner Jan Iversen’s story is a powerful reminder of what local healthcare means to Anacortes. Through the Iversen Scholarship Program—created in honor of her late husband, Colonel Richard Iversen—more than 50 Island Health clinical staff have advanced their education and careers, strengthening patient care for our community. Island Health's Morale, Wellness and Recognition (MWR) Committee is spreading the joy this season with their Winter Pop-up Market! Come shop from local vendors including Fidalgo Fudge, B.U.tiful, Feathers & Blooms and Three in Kind. There will also be custom pottery for sale, made by our own Dr. Alan Thom! Fifty percent of the proceeds of the pottery will be donated to the Island Health Foundation Wednesday, December 10th, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., in the hallway between the Main Entrance and Island Surgeons.

Thanks to your incredible support at the April gala, the DaVinci 5 Surgical Robot is already transforming care at Island Health.

From May–October 2025, surgeons completed 88 procedures using the new robot—bringing advanced, minimally invasive surgery close to home.
