On this date in U.S. SOF history.....01 April 2003: Army SF, Rangers and other special operations troops rescued 19-year-old Pfc. Jessica Lynch from an Iraqi hospital.
An element from the Joint Special Operations Task Force 121 composed of U.S. Army Special Forces, Air Force Pararescuemen (PJs), Army Rangers, and Delta Force launched a nighttime raid on the hospital, and successfully retrieved Lynch and the bodies of eight other American soldiers.
U.S. Marines from 2nd Battalion 8th Marines and 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines, as well as members from the Navy SEALs under the command of the U.S. Army, staged a diversionary attack, besieging nearby Iraqi irregulars to draw them away from Saddam Hospital in Nasiriyah.
