Horse/Manship Daily Devotion – “From Fight to Trust”

Scripture: “Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

There’s a moment in horsemanship when a horse enters what many call the “fight mode.”
Its head goes high, muscles tighten, eyes wide—ready to bolt, kick, or resist anything asked of it.
This isn’t because the horse is bad.
It’s because the horse doesn’t feel safe.

Recovery is the process of coming out of “Fight mode” by learning how to trust again. Our resistance, defiance and rebellion against God prevents us from having a relationship with him. As result, we never truly know God and experience how wonderful he is.

“Be still and know that I’m God” is not a call to contemplate nor necessarily meditate. It’s actually a call to surrender, to lay down your arms, quit fighting and believe. With him you will find safety, protection and a life you never imagined.

Prayer:
Father, when I feel the urge to fight or run, remind me I am safe with You. Help me release fear and learn to trust Your guidance. Teach me to be still, even when everything in me wants to resist. Amen.

TRIPLE OVERDOSE IN ANADARKO, THREE BROUGHT BACK FROM THE EDGE

ANADARKO, OKLA. — According to police scanner traffic, things got serious yesterday in Anadarko. We’re talking about a triple overdose. Yes… three people at once.

This happened in the 100 block of Prairie Village around 5:00 p.m. and from what we’re hearing, two females and one male overdosed, with fentanyl believed to be involved.

They were inside a vehicle, literally hanging on by a thread.

Luckily, some people on scene from the neighborhood had Narcan on hand and stepped in. That quick action is likely the only reason all three are still here today.

When police got there, they pulled them out of the vehicle, still unconscious but breathing. EMS took one to the hospital, and the other two were able to fully come back.

And before some of y’all start saying the police ain’t worth a damn… hush and actually listen.

Officers were already on the way, ready to step in and do life-saving work. But in this case, people from the neighborhood stepped up, acted fast, and did what needed to be done.

That’s how it’s supposed to be. Community and first responders working together, not against each other.

This story could have ended very differently, but because of the quick actions from community and police, they made it.

Fentanyl is no joke. It’s incredibly strong, unpredictable, and it doesn’t take much at all to shut your body down. People think they can handle it or that it won’t happen to them, until it does.

Sadly, we are seeing more and more overdoses like this, with people not realizing that fentanyl is on a whole different level. It doesn’t give second chances.

Moral of the story? Kids, don’t do drugs. This is your reminder that fentanyl doesn’t care who you are.

One bad choice can be your last.

Horse/Manship Devotions– April 18: Trust in the Lead

Scripture:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5

Reflection:
When working with a horse, one of the first lessons is learning how to lead—and how to be led. A horse won’t follow confusion, fear, or force for long. It responds to clarity, trust, and steady direction. If your energy is uncertain, the horse feels it immediately.
Life can feel the same way. We try to control outcomes, force solutions, or rush the process when things don’t go as planned. But just like in the arena, forcing things often creates resistance instead of progress.

Brothers and sisters, many are mistaken. It’s not get right then come to God. It’s come to God and he will get you right! It’s about complete surrender of your will (Control) and trusting totally in his will for your life! Until that happens, true change and progress will never occur. Surrender today! Surrender right now while the invitation is extended! Let go and let God lead you in this life. It’s a decision you will not regret!

Whether it’s Equine Therapy or just working with horses, There’s a moment when things begin to shift. The horse starts to follow—not because it has to, but because it trusts the handler’s presence and direction. That same shift can happen in our spiritual life. When we release control and trust God’s lead, peace replaces pressure. Ask yourself: Am I trying to force something that requires trust instead?

Prayer:
Father I pray right now in the name of your son Jesus that you speak to the individual reading this right now. Father, that you begin to move in their heart and mind and create a desire to trust you with all their hearts. That they surrender this day and come to know who you truly are! As a result we know a great change will take place in their lives! Amen.

Horse/Manship Devotion: Healing in the Presence of the Horse

Scripture:

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Reflection:
Personally I have experienced that There’s something powerful about being in the presence of a horse(s). They don’t rush you. They don’t judge your past. They respond to what is real—what you carry inside. Horses have a way of mirroring our emotions, gently revealing what we may try to hide from others… or even ourselves.
In equine therapy, healing doesn’t come through words alone—it comes through presence, trust, and connection. Just like our relationship with God, it requires honesty. Horses won’t follow force; they respond to consistency, patience, and calm leadership. In the same way, God invites us into a relationship not built on fear, but on trust.
When my daughter was gifted a Spirit (our first horse) from our Crow relatives, i quickly had to learn how to care for him. Before I could really start riding I had to make sure things were in place. I built a shelter, acquired tack, put up a round pen so I could start working with Spirit. I spent a lot of time with him but it was not necessarily to ride him or have him do something for me. I just enjoyed being in his presence. It was peaceful, it was calming, it felt like a new way of life I have been introduced too. Soon I have developed a bond, trust and love for Spirit. Brother and sisters, God is inviting us into personal relationship with him through Jesus. Before Christ, man has only known God from a distance. Today, Jesus has made a way that you and I can develop a personal bond and trust for God that results in a true love for God. A love where we simply just desire to be in his presence, a new way of life.

Prayer:
Thank You for meeting me where I am. Help me to be honest about what I carry inside. Teach me patience, trust, and calm strength. Just as the horse responds to steady guidance, help me respond to Your voice with faith instead of fear. Take my burdens and replace them with Your peace. Amen.

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong… If I have all knowledge… but do not have love, I am nothing.” 1 Cor. 13:1-2

A horse doesn’t respond to expertise—it responds to trust, gentleness, and care. In the same way, God calls us to lead with love first. Knowledge, skill, and ability have their place, but without love, they don’t truly connect or transform.
Whether we’re working with people, animals, or serving God, the real question is: Do they feel our care?
Love is what builds trust. Love is what opens hearts. Love is what reflects God.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to lead with love in everything I do. Let my actions show care before competence, and compassion before correction. Teach me to reflect Your heart in how I treat others. Amen.
