Wichita 988 Tribal Response

Wichita 988 Tribal Response We have a drop-in center located at 301 W Broadway Street in Anadarko, OK. We have staff on-call 24/7.

Formerly known as the Raising Interest in Suicide Education (RISE) program, the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes 988 Tribal Response program strives to increase access to mental health services for Native Americans through the 988 Mental Health Lifeline. Wichita and Affiliated Tribes 988 Tribal Response Program (Former names: Tribal Youth Surveillance Prevention program and later rebranded as the RISE program)

The 988 Tribal Response (988TR) program is a federally-funded grant administered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The purpose of our program is to provide resources to improve response to 988 contacts (including calls, chats, and texts) from tribal communities and/or American Indian/Alaska Native callers. Our program can help coordinate/facilitate a variety of mental health and suicide prevention/intervention trainings, educate community members, mental health professionals, and first responders on what the 988 process looks like, and provide case management, professional therapy, and peer recovery support services for 988 callers. Native licensed professional counselors are on-site and specialize in both youth and adult therapeutic services.. We encourage tribal members looking for resources/support services to call/text 988 and ask for the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes 988 Tribal Response Program.

NAMI Connection is for adults (18+) with mental health conditions. NAMI Connection Facilitators are uniquely qualified to lead support groups because they are going through their own recovery process. By utilizing NAMI-trained support group methods, they empathize with and encourage those who are just beginning the journey to a renewed life. A NAMI Connection Facilitator ensures that the group shares responsibility for maintaining guidelines, sustains clear participant boundaries, clarifies goals, and reinforces communication skills that encourage group participation.

Who can facilitate a group?
✓ Any adult (18+) who identifies with a mental health condition may apply to become a NAMI Connections Support Group facilitator.
✓ They are at a point in their own recovery that they are able to “give back” to others.
✓ All potential leaders are screened to determine whether the opportunity is a good fit for the individual and for the organization.
✓ Prospective leaders attend an intensive 2-day training to become certified.
✓ All facilitators must be members of NAMI and commit to a minimum of one year of service.

While attending a NAMI Connections Support Group in the past is not required, it is encouraged.

Our Story

RAISING INTEREST IN SU***DE EDUCATION PROGRAM The Wichita and Affiliated Tribes provide youth su***de prevention services to Wichita tribal members, all American Indian youth, and all community-residing youth ages 10-24 years old in Caddo, Blaine, Canadian, Custer, Grady, and Wash*ta counties. Our primary purpose is to strengthen individuals and communities in order to prevent su***de. Our program goals are: • Goal 1: Increase awareness and understanding of su***de. • Goal 2: Engage the Tribal community and partnering entities through coalition development, training, and outreach. • Goal 3: Develop the workforce through trainings to ensure effective assessment and treatment of youth at risk of su***de. • Goal 4: Implement community-based surveillance to identify at-risk youth and connect youth with services. • Goal 5: Ensure effective treatment and coordination of care through case management and follow up services. • Goal 6: Conduct quality improvement on prevention and response to su***de attempts and completions. Please feel welcomed and invited to call or visit our office. Our work is free and confidential.

We provide: (a) crisis response for youth at risk of harming themselves (prevention) and communities in need of healing (post-vention); (b) educational outreach to enhance awareness and understanding of self-harming behavior; and (c) community development to build infrastructure and partner coalitions among Tribal and public entities.
