Exhausted all day. Wide awake at night. That is not insomnia. That is a cortisol problem — and here's what's actually happening in your body.

Most people know cortisol as the stress hormone. But what they don't know is what happens when it stops working the way it should.

Here's how it's supposed to work:

In the morning your cortisol should be at its highest. That's what gets you out of bed, gets your brain firing, gives you that natural energy to start your day. Then it gradually declines throughout the day until it's low enough at night for your body to wind down and sleep.

That's the healthy pattern.

But here's what happens after years of chronic stress, overextension, and running on empty:

🔹 Your morning cortisol is flat — so you wake up feeling like you never slept
🔹 You need caffeine just to feel human before 10am
🔹 You get a second wind late in the evening
🔹 And then you're exhausted but your mind is racing and you cannot turn it off

That pattern has a name. It's called HPA axis dysregulation. And it is one of the most common and most overlooked causes of fatigue in women over 35.

Here's what makes it even more important — cortisol and blood sugar are deeply connected. When your cortisol rhythm is off, your blood sugar becomes unstable. You crash. You crave sugar and carbs. You reach for caffeine. And the cycle repeats itself every single day.

Everyone’s talking about fasting.

But nobody’s asking the most important question first:

Is it actually right for YOU right now?

Because fasting isn’t a one-size-fits-all tool

and for some women, it can do more harm than good.

If your cortisol is already through the roof, fasting is just another stressor on a body that’s already maxed out. You’ll feel worse, not better.
