As the weather cools down, it’s the perfect time to make warm, nourishing meals that your whole family can enjoy! Get ideas with our winter weather favorites using WIC-approved foods:
🥣 Oatmeal, grits, or cream of wheat with your favorite toppings (fresh or frozen fruit with your favorite milk OR cheese and an egg on top for a savory option)
🍚 Rice and beans, canned or dried, with your favorite seasonings (you could cook your rice in broth for extra flavor!)
🍜 Soups and stews using your family’s favorite veggies (you can add in beans or whole grain pasta to boost the nutrition of your recipe)

Municipality of Anchorage provides taxi vouchers!
Anchorage has transportation vouchers to help
participants shop for their WIC food. The vouchers allow
for two round trips to the grocery store each month.
These can be requested through our website:

Anchorage Parks and Recreation is hosting a winter solstice event! Enjoy a family event where you can have festive fun and stay active. ⛄
❄December 19th 5-8pm
❄Cuddy Family Park (201 E 40th Ave)
❄Free Admission and Activities
Bring your ice skates for skating around the oval to your favorite holiday music. Take a break by a warm fire while sipping hot chocolate and visiting with friends.
Ride on a horse-drawn wagon, hop on a dog sled for a ride around the park, or visit Santa’s reindeer, and you might see Santa if he’s not too busy getting ready for his big day.
There are limited timeslots for the horse-drawn wagon, dog sled rides, and borrowing the skate assist seals. Reservations are NOT available in advance. Make a reservation at the activity station when you arrive. Reservations can be made starting at 4:30pm.

Eagle River Nature Center is hosting a lantern making craft event.
Join them at 32750 Eagle River Rd.

FAMILY LANTERN MAKING
Bring the whole family to a crafting open house in the Education Yurt. Grandparents, adults, teens, and littles ones are all welcome! Join to create lanterns out of recycled materials to brighten up your solstice. Will have materials available and you are encouraged to bring your own!

WIC has a group of breastfeeding peer counselors. 🤰🍼
These counselors are trained and compassionate, offering guidance to any family members with breastfeeding questions, or just those who need support.
The lactation club gatherings offer a warm and welcoming space to build
connections with other parents, explore breastfeeding topics, ask questions.
Together, we’re here to support you on your breastfeeding journey.
All family members are welcome!

Sledding is a great way of staying active and enjoying Alaska's colder weather.
Bring your sleds, bundle up, and SLIDE into an evening of FREE snowy adventures at the Frosty Fun Family Sledding series!
Warm up inside with hot chocolate and music, or roast marshmallows outside by the fire pit and sled the night away.
