Anchorage & Valley Radiation Therapy Centers

Anchorage & Valley Radiation Therapy Centers Pioneering cancer treatment in Alaska. This page is intended to serve as a resource for our community Patients often feel vulnerable and uncertain.

At Anchorage Radiation Therapy Center, open since 1993 on the Alaska Regional Hospital campus, we understand that being diagnosed with cancer is a stressful experience. Our mission has always been to listen to our patients’ concerns, answer their questions, educate them about all possible treatment options, and empower them with the resources they need to be in control of their care. This is the kind of compassionate care you can always expect from everyone at our center. Over the years the technologies and services we provide to our patients have developed, but one thing has never changed: our belief that the best cancer therapy treatment combines highly trained physicians and staff with advanced technologies in an environment of hope and compassion. We are a American College of Radiology (ACR)-accredited facility, meaning you will receive treatment from a facility with the highest practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs by the ACR. Accreditation is awarded after an exhaustive third-party, peer-review evaluation conducted by board-certified radiologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Anchorage Radiation Therapy Center (and our sister facility, Valley Radiation Therapy Center, open since 2006 on the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center campus) are proud to be among an elite group of radiation therapy centers providing the highest level of quality care to our patients.

Today is World Pancreatic Cancer Day.
Pancreatic cancer remains one of the deadliest cancers worldwide. It's often called a silent killer because its symptoms are subtle & easily missed.
Early detection saves lives, but it’s only possible if we know what to look for.
Here are some symptoms to watch out for:
• Persistent stomach or mid-back pain
• Unexplained weight loss
• Jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)
• Changes in stool (pale, oily or floating)
• Loss of appetite or digestive issues
• Sudden onset of diabetes
If something doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore it. Talk to your GP. Understanding the signs & risks could make all the difference.

World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer — yet thousands of women and girls continue to lose their lives to a disease that can be prevented, detected early, and effectively treated.

Together, we can eliminate cervical cancer by ensuring:

HPV vaccination for girls and eligible adolescents

Regular screening (Pap/HPV tests) for women

Early treatment of precancerous lesions

Awareness of symptoms and prevention

Equitable access to reproductive and maternal health services

Our Commitment
We stand with women and girls everywhere — advocating for stronger health systems, informed communities, and a future where cervical cancer is no longer a threat.

Early detection saves lives — make your health a priority this month and share this information with others.

5 STEPS TO EARLY DETECTION | To find breast cancer early, follow these steps:

1. Routinely self-examine. Know your body. Check monthly for any changes in your breasts.

2. Learn your risks and family history. Talk to your family. Understanding your risk helps you stay proactive.

3. Know when to have a mammogram, then schedule your annual checkup. Start at age 40, or earlier if you have risk factors. (Ask your doctor.) Yearly check-ups catch things early. Don’t miss your visit!

4. Follow up after a screening test. If something needs checking, don't delay. Follow-up saves lives!

READY TO GET SCREENED? The Alaska Breast and Cervical Screening Assistance Program (AK B+C) provides FREE or low-cost mammograms to eligible Alaskan women.

Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day:

What is Metastatic Breast Cancer?

Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC), also known as stage IV breast cancer, occurs when cancer that began in the breast spreads to other parts of the body—most commonly the bones, lungs, liver, or brain. This process is called metastasis, where cancer cells break away from the original tumor and travel through the bloodstream or lymphatic system to form new tumors in distant organs.

While Metastatic Breast Cancer is not currently curable, advancements in treatment have significantly improved survival rates and quality of life for many individuals living with the disease. Research and awareness are essential to continue making progress toward better therapies and, one day, a cure.
