💜November marks a time when we pause to recognize the unseen heroes who walk beside individuals throughout cancer treatment. Behind every person navigating this journey is a network of support that often goes unrecognized.
Shirlie M., LMSW, Oncology Social Worker and part of our Integrated Care Team, shares an important perspective: "When you think about a survivor’s care team you think oncologists, nurses, social workers, palliative care provider, and many other medical professionals who help navigate a cancer diagnosis but there is one care team member that is often not acknowledged and that is Caregivers. Our family members, friends, and loved ones that stand beside survivors every day through their cancer diagnosis and into survivorship. As a social worker I see firsthand the impact caregivers make for their loved ones – from navigating our complex medical system, accompanying to appointments, helping with medications, filling out paperwork, and so much more. Caregivers are an extraordinary and instrumental member the care team, and we can’t thank them enough for all they do standing beside their loved ones." - Shirlie M.

“For every 200 people screened, one life is saved.” - Dr. Michael Green, AROC. 🫁Lung cancer remains one of the deadliest cancers for Alaskans, in part because it’s often found too late. Our very own Dr. Green explains why early detection matters, and how a simple, low-dose CT scan can truly save lives.👉Read his op-ed in The People's Paper:

That’s why we’re proud to support Alaska’s To***co Quit Line, a program that connects Alaskans with free quit-coaching, ni****ne replacement therapy delivered right to your door, and the guidance you need to quit for good.
