Paws for Purple Hearts Alaska

Paws for Purple Hearts Alaska PPH is built upon the trusted and time-honored tradition of Warriors helping Warriors. The benefits extend well beyond the PPH Veteran trainers.

Non-Profit organization, certified through Assistance Dogs International to train & place Service dogs with Veterans experiencing PTSD, TBI, or Mobility challenges. Paws for Purple Hearts (PPH) is the first program of its kind to offer therapeutic intervention for Veterans and active-duty Service Members by teaching those with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), an

d Military Sexual Trauma (MST) to train service dogs for their comrades with combat-related injuries. Under the guidance of PPH instructors, participants engage with specially-bred Golden and Labrador Retriever puppies. Together they undergo an intensive 18-to-24-month service dog training regimen—learning more than 90 commands–while the Veterans reintegrate into civilian life. The service dogs trained in the PPH program are partnered with Veterans or Service Members with combat-related disabilities at no cost, providing a new steadfast companion and a true partner. PPH dogs provide independence and security as they perform tasks like tugging open doors, switching on and off lights, and picking up dropped items.

Vitus and Nike were very excited to visit the staff and students at Orion Elementary School on JBER today!

Vitus showed the kids how he can retrieve items (a cane and car keys) and use his amazing cuddle powers to calm someone with anxiety. The students had prepared some great questions to ask our trainers—they were a joy to talk to about service dogs in training!

Thank you, Orion Elementary for hosting us!

We’ve purpled up for the Month of the Military Child in JBER Life’s “You Got Splashed” contest!

Our office is rocking some new purple decor in celebration! (Did you notice the LEGO puppy wearing his purple service dog bandana too?)

Our military children are always ready to go, wherever they’re transferred—always making new friends, moving into new houses, and starting at new schools. Paws for Purple Hearts supports each and every military child! 💜

We had the privilege of being invited to participate in ‘The Last Frontier Honor Flight’ from Anchorage to Washington DC today, and to thank our amazing veterans for their service. 🇺🇸

Vitus, Nike, and Xena showed their support of our veterans by providing cuddles before the flight. It was so nice to overhear some say they’d love to pet the dogs, so we made sure they all got to say hello!

The dogs behaved as expected as they went through TSA security, walked the terminal, and saw working dogs — which are rare things for them to experience— but they did so well!

💜 Happy Purple Up Day! 💜

That Others May Live Foundation joins the nation in wearing purple to honor the strength, resilience, and unique sacrifices of our military children. 👣

To the kids and teens in our USAF Rescue families: we see your courage in every move, every deployment, and every "see you later." You are the heart of the mission, and we are so incredibly proud to serve you.

Thank you for being the brave, adaptable, and inspiring young heroes you are!
