August is spinal muscular atrophy awareness month ✨

August is Spinal Muscular Atrophy Awareness Month. Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a disorder affecting the motor neurons—nerve cells that control voluntary muscle movement. One in every 6,000 babies is born with SMA, making it one of the most prevalent genetic disorders affecting young children. At Children's Harbor, we offer services to families affected by SMA. ✨

September 29-October 1, we offer a camp at our Lake Martin location for patients and families with a rare disease, including families with a child with SMA. Contact us on our website to learn more.
