Nocturia can be caused by:
 Polyuria: when your body makes too much urine in a 24-hour period
 Nocturnal polyuria: when your body makes too much urine during the night
 Bladder storage problems: when your bladder doesn't store or release urine well
 Mixed nocturia: when more than one of these problems are happening

Risk factors for developing ovarian cancer include family history and the presence of inherited gene mutations. There are tests that can detect mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, which increase the risk of female breast and ovarian cancers and some additional types of cancer. Other risk factors include the use of estrogen-only hormone replacement therapy and the use of fertility drugs.

An estimated 5 percent to 10 percent of ovarian cancers are caused by inherited gene mutations. Three hereditary patterns have been identified: ovarian cancer alone, ovarian and breast cancers, and ovarian and colon cancers. There are tests that can detect mutated genes. These genetic tests are sometimes done for members of families with a high risk of cancer.
