Hi- hello, it’s me again.
Coming at you from my favorite little place on the corner of 2nd & E st in downtown Anchorage Alaska.
Life has been life-ing lately. With no visible signs of relief coming soon. And if you are in the thick of it and just surviving every day, I see you.
I feel overwhelmed.
I scroll.
I see murder.
I scroll.
I find inspiration.
I scroll.
I see suffering.
I scroll.
I see celebration.
I scroll.
I see anger and hatred and joy and love.
I scroll.
And I scroll.
And I scroll.
It’s whiplash for my brain and body and heart.
I won’t stop looking.
I know I need to see it.
I will not bury my head in the sand of enlightened spirituality and with my hands at my heart as I gently tell you about the yamas & niyamas.
And remind you that there’s beauty everywhere.
I will scream and cry about the suffering and I will move my body through the feelings.
And then I will tell you, that in the midst of educating yourself and being aware of what’s happening, don’t forget to tend to yourself as well.
There are some things totally outside of your control. Learn what those are.
And set them down.
So that you have more capacity for what is in your control.
Don’t get so hard that you stop feeling.
Feeling is your power.
But when you feel anger and fear, find ways to also feel peace and joy. Because those do this exist.
I want this studio to be a safe space for people to come and move their bodies, regardless of belief or background.
But don’t forget- yoga is political.
It can’t not be. It’s unity. It’s liberation.
And I will always stand up for what I believe in.
Here at burn & bloom we believe in peace signs and protest signs.
Now is not a time to be silent or passive.
Now is a time to LIVE yoga- all 8 limbs of it.
