❤️ Have you heard of ? It happens when the heart's electrical signals fall out of rhythm, which can lead to an irregular heartbeat and a range of symptoms. Some arrhythmias are harmless, while others may need more attention.

Arrhythmias can affect anyone. If your heartbeat feels a little "off" or you're noticing unusual symptoms, it's best to get it checked out. If you're experiencing chest pain, severe shortness of breath or fainting, seek emergency care right away.

If you'd like to get your symptoms checked and it's not something requiring emergency care, schedule an appointment with one of our cardiologists: https://bit.ly/4aq6vW3

❤️ Heart health matters - especially in Alaska. We were proud to make Wear Red Day and Heart Month even more meaningful by presenting a $25,000 grant to the YMCA of Alaska on behalf of the HCA Healthcare Foundation, part of our parent company.

“This grant will help address high-priority health needs by supporting measurable health initiatives in the community we serve,” said Mark Roberts, our CEO.

Nate Root, CEO of the YMCA, said funds will expand the blood pressure self-monitoring program by increasing outreach and accessibility and support offerings to other parts of the state. “Funds will also support more medical memberships scholarships for program attendees, the purchase of additional program supplies like larger blood pressure cuffs, scales, pulse oximeters, and healthy lunches for program participants."

Our team also took a tour of the YMCA facilities and learned of their plans for expansion to help create healthier tomorrows for more of our community. With heart disease and stroke remaining leading health concerns in our state, we're proud to support efforts to ensure more Alaskans have access to the tools and education they need to manage their health. ❤️

Celebrating another year of excellence! Our total hip, knee, and spine programs have once again earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval®. Through rigorous, unannounced reviews and consistently strong patient outcomes, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to best‑practice care and patient safety. Since first earning these certifications in 2012 and 2017, this achievement has meant something real for our patients: more bike rides through Kincaid Park, hide‑and‑seek with grandkids, dog walks around the block, hikes up Flattop, skiing, berry picking, hunting, fishing, and simply enjoying everything Alaska has to offer. Thank you to everyone who makes this level of excellence possible.

Burn injuries can happen quickly – at home, outdoors or during everyday routines. This National Burn Awareness Week, we’re joining the American Burn Association in spotlighting this year’s theme: “Burn Prevention Where You Live, Work and Play – Preventing Burns in the Workplace.” While many burns occur in places like kitchens, workshops or industrial settings, prevention starts with awareness wherever you are. Explore simple, proactive steps to help keep you and your family safe: https://bit.ly/3M6CjY0

Mild, first‑degree burns – often marked by redness, pain or slight swelling – can typically be cared for at home using simple first-aid steps like gently cleaning the area with cool water and soap, applying a thin layer of ointment and covering with sterile, non‑stick gauze. Over‑the‑counter medication can help with discomfort. Follow the tips we’re sharing here on what to avoid when treating a burn.

For more serious burns, especially those involving deeper tissue or larger areas, prompt medical attention is critical. Emergency rooms are prepared to provide timely care. For complex cases, specialized treatment is available through our broader HCA Healthcare HCA Healthcare network, including 11 American Burn Association-recognized burn centers across nine states.

We’re over-the-moon proud to honor Dr. Serene Perkins, our Chief Medical Officer, on National Women Physicians Day. She inspires us by leading with integrity, compassion and excellence.

Dr. Perkins joined our ARH family in July 2025, bringing extensive experience as a surgical oncologist, researcher, educator and healthcare executive. She previously served in Chief Medical Officer roles elsewhere in Alaska and the Lower 48, where she championed quality and safety, and advanced patient-centered care.

She is recognized for her expertise in liver treatment and surgical oncology, with numerous published studies and national lectures. Dr. Perkins completed her medical training in Chicago, followed by a general surgery residency, research fellowship in molecular genetics, and advanced fellowships in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery and organ transplantation.

Brilliant, capable and kind - it's a perfect combo. Cheers to Dr. Perkins and all the women physicians who shape healthcare through their leadership, innovation and compassionate care.

Do you know what your numbers mean? They can reveal far more about your health than you might think. Blood pressure naturally rises and falls throughout the day, but when it stays high, your risk rises too. 📈 Nearly half of Americans have high blood pressure, often with no symptoms – that’s why high blood pressure is known as the “silent killer.”
