Polysomnography (PSG) is an overnight sleep study that helps diagnose certain sleep disorders such as:
• sleep apnea
• narcolepsy
• restless leg syndrome
• insomnia

Prior to appointment, make sure you pack an overnight bag with sleepwear, hygiene products and clothes for the next day. As for medication, make sure you speak with provider to have medication sent over to your preferred pharmacy as we do not dispense it at the sleep lab.

If you suffer from muscle weakness, tingling, twitching or spasms, your provider may order an 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗺𝘆𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆 (𝗘𝗠𝗚)

An EMG test measures the electrical activity in muscles and nerves. This will help your providers tell if your symptoms are caused by a muscle or nerve disorder. On the day of your procedure, make sure to not wear any lotion on your body.

Sara spent 11 years active duty in the Navy and has been a nurse practitioner for 10 years (8 1/2 spent here at AKNC!) Her favorite part about being a nurse practitioner is the ability to have more time to explain the patient’s diagnosis and educate on available treatments. During her free time, Sara enjoys kayaking, hiking, local music and spending time with family, friends and her pups.
