Last week Anchorage Recovery Center joined schools, first responders, the DEA, and the AK Fentanyl Response Team to honor Red Ribbon Week and raise drug-use awareness.

At Palmer High School we spoke in the gym to students on the bleachers about the reality of substance use disorder, breaking stigma, and how to support a classmate, friends or a loved ones who is struggling. After everyone took part in building lifesaving naloxone kits to be handed out in the community.

At Fire Lake Elementary we watched bright, energetic kids call out healthy choices and the habits to avoid. Then all outside to have fun with the firetruck and SWAT vehicle!

This is how we make a difference — by starting conversations at school and at home so our kids know how to respond and where to turn for help. If you or someone you love needs support, Anchorage Recovery Center is here. Reach out to learn more about prevention, resources, and recovery services.

Yesterday at Anchorage Recovery Center was a beautiful reminder of why community and creating a healthy culture matters. Clients and staff — peer support, clinicians, case managers, and behavioral health teams — came together for a Chili Cook‑Off and Talent Show. Shared laughter and cheers for one another echoed through the building, and we watched people step into the spotlight with courage and joy.

Out of 8 delicious chili entries, Jonathan (clinician) took first place, Amber (peer support) placed second, and Dennis (case manager) came in third. The talent contest portion of the night brought songs, poems, magic tricks, and guitar performances; a client’s breathtaking guitar piece won the evening and our hearts. The night closed with karaoke, smiles, and genuine connection.

Events like this show that healing often looks like shared meals, music, and belonging — not always in an office setting. Shout out to our amazing team and clients who performed, cooked, got out of their comfort zone and supported one another. You made the evening unforgettable and strengthened the Anchorage Recovery Center’s small community in the best way.

Tuesday, hundreds lined up outside the Egan Convention Center for Homeless Connect — a powerful reminder of the need for compassionate, accessible services in our community. Anchorage Recovery Center was grateful to be there offering resources, snacks, access to SUD and mental health treatment information, provide peer support and free naloxone. We were honored to hand out approximately 75 life‑saving overdose reversal kits.

So many people shared stories of motivation — some folks taking steps to better themselves and others preparing to make their first steps. If you or someone you love is struggling with alcohol or substances, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help.

Recovery isn’t only a process of understanding and working through past trauma and triggers — it’s also a journey of rediscovery. It’s about reigniting passions that may have been dimmed or forgotten, and about creating new ones that bring meaning, joy, and strength. At Anchorage Recovery Center, our role is to provide the guidance, tools, and compassionate space where those sparks can catch fire — or where existing flames can be fanned into something brighter.

Each day we are humbled and uplifted to watch people transform: building healthier lives, stepping into their potential, and reclaiming pieces of themselves that were once lost. One of the most powerful ways that transformation shows itself is through art. Each piece carries a story of struggle, courage, and rebuilding. Art can be a bridge between pain and hope, a visible testament that healing is possible.

We want to celebrate those journeys. Check out the beautiful artwork shared by our clients.
If you have artwork you created during your recovery — whether it was made in early days or more recently — please share it here. Tell us a little about what it means to you if you’d like. Your creativity can encourage someone else who’s still finding their way, and together we can honor the resilience and beauty of recovery.

We’re grateful to support an incredible organization like Battle Dawgs, which is making a genuine difference for veterans on the ground. They take veterans on a healing journey, starting with the beauty of outdoor adventures and nature-based therapies. It’s about finding peace and resetting through holistic healing and unwavering support. Veterans here rebuild their lives by learning new skills and forming strong bonds of camaraderie. Ultimately, they refocus on leadership and community, empowering all to thrive. Thank you for all you do to uplift our warriors when they return home.

Day 2 of our 2nd August Warrior Camp was focused on Modalities!

Warriors were introduced to our wellness center and all of the different types of therapies we offer.

Our volunteer clinical team came out and supported the day with Reiki therapy, Massage therapy, Accelerated Resolution therapy, Vegas nerve stimulation, red light therapy, sauna therapy, cold plunge, Cognitive behavioral therapy. And of course our favorite campfire therapy.

Can not thank Anchorage Recovery Center, Missy and Doris enough for coming out to support this amazing Day of Healing!

Join us on the Purple Trail! We're offering a calm spot to hang out and learn about recovery resources for civilians, veterans, and active duty military. Enjoy raffles, games, and family fun! Take a spin on the Jeopardy wheel for a chance to win or experience some of the dangers of drinking and try your hand at the Drunk Putter Challenge (no alcohol involved 😂). Don't forget to ask about our Random Act of Kindness Experiment.

Share this post and let’s see how much support we can get this year!

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you to all the supporting organizations!

Thank you to everyone who showed up and made the gathering worthwhile, and extra gratitude to all who put their time and energy into making this happen. Can’t wait for the next one!

🎉 Happy Recovery Birthday and Congratulations, Amber! 🎉

Today, we at the Anchorage Recovery Center want to take a moment to celebrate you. Your role as a Behavioral Health Technician here is invaluable, but that title barely scratches the surface of who you truly are. Today, you mark an incredible milestone: nine years of recovery from mind-altering substances.

Amber, you are a shining example of resilience and hope, both at work and within the community. Your journey is an inspiration to everyone around you, and your dedication to sharing your experiences and hope uplifts and motivates others on their own paths of recovery.

Thank you for being a beacon of strength and positivity every single day. Congratulations on reaching nine years of recovery, and here’s to many more years of growth, success, and impact.

With gratitude and admiration,
The Anchorage Recovery Center Team
