Happy Wednesday! I would like to announce that I will not be accepting new clients in 2023. I will, however be engaging in community outreach. I will post monthly calendars of free events I will be holding both in person and online. Be on the lookout for January’s calendar at the end of December along with polls for what you’re most interested in discussing and learning about. I am so excited to potentially reach the community in this way. Tag expecting parents below!

Today we’re sharing another great story! This one really captures how family can deter you, sometimes harmlessly, from sticking to your breastfeeding goals. You can be the one to break the cycle in your family of being scared, clueless, or not encouraged to breastfeed your baby. Thank you for sharing your story Rashae!

Happy Black Breastfeeding Week! This year's theme is A New Foundation. "We’ve shifted the narrative/optics, supported and uplifted each other…and it’s still just the beginning. The new foundation of lactation support is built on racial equity, cultural empowerment, and community engagement and is powered by our collective resilience." (blackbreastfeedingweek.org). I want to highlight Black Mamas this week to celebrate their journey and empower others as they start or reflect on their own. Meet Briana as she shares her breastfeeding story!

Doulas are a great asset to your support team, and deserve to be paid their worth. While both of those things are true, I don’t believe anyone should suffer from the effects of the latter. There will ALWAYS be a doula that is affordable for you, whether they are offering free services for training, offering a sliding scale, or if they straight up fit into your finances. I’m here to tell you having a doula on your pregnancy wishlist is obtainable! Other ways to ensure you can secure a doula is asking about their payment plans or asking for donations towards your doula on your registry. Every family deserves to know a doula’s care and compassion!

It finally happened. After 2 years I was able to enter the birthing space with a client for the first time. Due to ever changing Covid policies I’ve shifted my focus to preparing for baby and postpartum care. Today, I was able to be where I was needed most. It was such a privilege to support this mama who did a phenomenal job bringing her baby into this world. This is a feeling that I won’t ever forget!

This week is Black Maternal Health Week. Black women and infants face death and unfavorable birth outcomes due to structural racism, implicit bias, and social determinants of health to name a few reasons. This is a week to hear stories from Black Mothers to raise awareness and advocate for their right to birth safely. This year’s theme is Building for Liberation. To me this means listening to women’s stories and learning from them, advocating for them in hospitals and on government levels, and providing education to those that need it. So thank you, Black Mamas, for all that you endure. Let’s change the narrative together 🤎
