Check out the light-up prosthesis that Marissa made for her patient, Ben!!
Ben quickly became a favorite patient and you will be hard pressed to find anyone as kind, caring, and patient as him. Ben has done so much for our community and we’re happy to be able to give him just a little back!

A Note from Christi, our Business Manager:

I’m incredibly grateful to work for Prevail.
Many of you may know I can be a bit.... outspoken 😉 but what you may NOT know is that I proudly serve as the Indiana Representative for Orthotics and Prosthetics through AOPA.

This role allows me to do something I’ve become passionate about; advocating for meaningful change in the orthotics and prosthetics field. It gives me a platform to bring critical issues to the attention of decision-makers who can help us move our industry forward. Even though I am NOT a political person and honestly have a very fundamental understanding of how politics even work, I've been to Capitol Hill, met with some "movers-and-shakers" in high levels of government, and led discussions on situations that are hindering O&P patients care.

Recently, we had the honor of hosting a meeting with Darren Vogt from Senator Banks’ office, bilateral amputee and O&P advocate Alicia Carver, and Jeff Kessler, the newly promoted Director of VGM. Together, we discussed a bill that has been in motion since 2015. A bill that has yet to break through, despite its potential to impact millions of brace wearers across the United States.
(Side note: The bill is H.R. 4475/S. 2329. Please write, email, or call you state leaders and tell them you're in support of this bill!)
Our industry may be small, but the people we serve are not. Their needs are real, urgent, and worthy of being heard. I’m proud to be a voice for them and to stand with others who share this mission.

A big thank-you to Jeff Kessler for the thoughtful article (link below) highlighting this important work and for fighting along side smaller independent clinics, like ours.

When I started at Prevail nearly 20 years ago, I had no background in this field. I do, however, remember the first time I heard the word "orthotics". I was about 8 when my grandma Schrader told me I should get some orthotics and thought, what the heck is that?! Little did I know then what a connection I'd have with the word in my adult life and growing up with my mom utilizing orthotic braces (what were made by Prevail in the 1980s, too!) What I found was a career that introduced me to incredible people, amazing patients, and countless stories that inspired me to fight for better access, better care, and better policies for everyone who depends on orthotic and prosthetic devices.

Learn how dedicated O&P professionals in Indiana are shaping orthotic legislation and improving patient care in prosthetics & orthotics.

Today we had the pleasure of hosting Darren Vogt, Field Representative & Special Assistant to Senator Jim Banks, Jeff Kessler of VGM & Associates, and O&P Advocate Alicia Carver at our Fort Wayne W. Jefferson office to discuss Bill S.2329 (House Bill H.R. 4475).

This bill addresses three critical barriers to quality patient care in the Orthotics and Prosthetics industry:

1️⃣ Ensuring braces are covered based on medical necessity, instead arbitrarily limiting coverage to one brace every five years.
2️⃣ Ending competitive bidding, which currently allows manufacturers without trained orthotists/prosthetists to provide braces, often leaving patients with ill-fitting devices and without follow-up care.
3️⃣ Eliminating drop-shipping of orthotic devices, which has been linked to large-scale healthcare fraud and over-billing, and also prevents patients from accessing skilled practitioners when devices are ill-fitting.

Prevail has a long history of advocating for our patients to help ensure they receive quality care and we fight unfair policies on their behalf.

We encourage you to reach out to your Senators and State Representatives to show your support for this important bill!
