Throwback to a great K9 medical training session using K9 Diesel.

Students trained in canine first aid, live assessment, and life-saving procedures like intubation and needle decompression. Preparing the next generation to respond when it counts.

Photos from Todd Konradi, Valparaiso University Police Department, Porter County Career and Tech Center.

"Had a great day yesterday with the Veterinary Science class!
We covered Canine first aid, and emergency care of Operational K9s by PD and EMS providers.
VUPD Officer Rayne (and her Human Kevin Garber) participated in the live animal assessment station where the students got to take vitals, find anatomic landmarks, and hear about the amazing work that Rayne does. (Thank you for spending the day with us!)
The other station utilized a K9 Diesel ( Robot dog) made by TacMed Solutions. Where the students got to practice life saving techniques, such as Intubation, Needle Chest Decompression, Decompression of Bloat/GDV, as well as discuss other procedures that can be practiced on Diesel. ( Don’t worry, he doesn’t mind being poked by needles, it’s his “job”. )
This amazing program prepares the students for careers in the veterinary field with classroom education, hands on training, and shadowing opportunities at local Veterinary offices!
I look forward to seeing next year’s class!"

World Day for Safety and Health at Work is a reminder that preparation matters long before an emergency happens.

The greatest risks are often the ones we don’t see coming, which is why readiness can’t wait until the moment of crisis.

At TacMed, our mission is to equip everyday people, professionals, and organizations with the tools and training needed to respond when it counts. Because when the unexpected happens, being prepared is what saves lives.
