The rotator cuff is a group of 4 muscles deep in the shoulder that stabilize the joint to help move in a more efficient sequence during weight lifting and sport-related activity. Poor movement patterns or over-training can put excessive stress on the RTC and larger muscles in the area, leading to tendinitis and eventually other problems down the road.
Teaching patients what these muscles are and how to strengthen them in various positions is a critical piece of most shoulder rehab protocols and preventative care. Try these exercises that range from easy to intermediate if you are looking to develop a healthier shoulder joint!

💥Blood Flow restriction is a growing specialty in orthopedic rehab that requires a patient to perform resistance training with an inflated cuff around the leg or arm, which limits blood flow from entering or leaving muscles.
⚡️At a cellular level, the lack of oxygen to muscles from BFR will lead to earlier levels of fatigue and make the nervous system work harder to activate muscle fibers. Because of this metabolic stress, less resistance and intensity is required for individuals compared to their typical training.
🩼 For post-operative athletes who are in the early stages of rehab with weight-bearing restrictions or even entering the sub-acute stage, this is a great tool to regain strength and hypertrophy while reducing stress on surgical sites.

Hamstring tears are a frequent injury in professional soccer players. This muscle group is put under heavy load during high velocity kicking, sprinting, and quick bursts of acceleration. They represent roughly 17% of all injuries and are twice as likely as a quadriceps strain in that sport. Modifiable risk factors include strength imbalances, flexibility deficits and inadequate or incomplete rehab programs. Prepare for the soccer season by trying these exercises that can potentially reduce the risk of in-season injury.

New Service!! Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive regenerative medicine treatment. Athletic Edge PT’s certified providers use Focused Shockwave to help stimulate the body’s natural healing process. It can relieve pain and promote healing of injured tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues. It accomplishes this by releasing growth factors in the injured tissue.

Locally Owned Physical Therapy in Downtown Andover
We live and breath motion, movement and function. Achieving patient performance goals and living a life without pain is our passion!
Each patient and each case is unique. The field of medicine is changing and we are rapidly seeing the formation of big corporation’s making it more and more difficult to find quality affordable care. Physical therapy is no different.
That’s why we staff our clinic with highly trained and experienced clinicians who continuously collaborate with researchers and physicians to establish cutting edge, individualized treatment plans.
From the moment you start therapy, you will feel comfortable with our staff and clinic. We work to schedule appointments with the same therapist to provide better continuity of care each visit. We believe the best comprehensive care is derived from the synergy between patient and clinician — A level of excellence and care, tailored to each individual in a friendly supportive environment.
We are excited to announce that we will be opening in late February or Early March our second location in Downtown Andover has plenty of free off street parking.
