In the gentle embrace of twilight, George Frank Barfield, a man of loving countenance and intelligent discourse, passed away on the twenty-third of February in the year two thousand and twenty-six, lay down his earthly burden in the town of Andrews, Texas. Born in the spring of nineteen hundred and thirty in San Angelo, Texas, he embarked upon life's journey that would span nearly a century, and in its course, he became a beacon of steadfast love and wisdom.
George, as he was known to all, was a man of Christian faith, whose heart was as generous as it was pure. He was the beloved patriarch of a family most dear, leaving behind his cherished wife of fifty golden years, Mildred Jean Qualls Barfield, and their progeny: Johnny Herman Barfield with his wife Doris Jannette Nolan Barfield of Houston, Texas; Cynthia Lori Barfield Trujillo of Carlsbad, New Mexico; step-children Charles Edward Elkins with his wife Barbara of Yukon, Oklahoma; Cynthia Ann Elkins Wright of Andrews, Texas; and a lineage that further blossomed to include grandchildren George Barfield, Jon Michael Barfield and wife Antoinette, Brian Elkins and wife Kristy, Michael Elkins and wife Christy, Steven Elkins and wife Katherine, Kris Allen and wife Shannon, Crystal Wright Britton and husband Robert, Danny Kuykendall, Teffanie Kuykendall Fawks and husband Whitney; twenty-four great-grandchildren, and even those of the fifth generation.
As a young man, George's quest for knowledge saw him don the cap and gown at McCamey High School, from whence he graduated in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and forty-seven. His professional odyssey commenced as a postal assistant in McCamey, from whence he ventured into the realm of insurance sales. Yet it was the call of the oil fields that captured his industrious spirit, leading him to a career in chemical and acid sales. In the fullness of time, George, with his comrade Herb Hobson, did establish an independent oil production company, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and acumen.
Upon his eventual retirement, George found solace in the simple pleasures of life. He was oft to be found at his favored haunt, the Andrews Country Club, or else amidst the verdant expanse of the golf course, engaging in the sport he so adored. His voice, rich and melodious, would rise in song to serenade his dear Millie, and together they reveled in the joys of angling and the thrill of games of chance at distant casinos. A devotee of the Cowboys, his passion for the sport of gridiron was such that he and his wife were immortalized with a brick at the hallowed AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Their abode was renowned as the sanctum of the Super Bowl, a place of fellowship and camaraderie where friends and colleagues would gather.
George's life, a tapestry woven with the threads of love and wisdom, has come to its earthly conclusion. He now joins his forebears, Edward Elder Barfield and Mona Collyns Barfield, his siblings Agatha, Mona, Edward, Jack, and Bill, his beloved children Mary Davina Barfield and James Maxwell Barfield, his stepchildren Terri Elkins Kuykendall and James Carroll Wright, and his grandson Koby Noel, in the realm beyond this mortal coil.
Thus, we commit the memory of George Frank Barfield to the eternal annals of time, with the assurance that his legacy shall endure in the hearts of those he so profoundly touched. His departure from this world is not an end, but a transformation, as he continues his journey in the company of angels. Let us not mourn but rather celebrate a life resplendent with love and wisdom, a life truly lived.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at two o’clock in the afternoon at McNett Funeral Home in Andrews, Texas.
