As a parent you should be involved in your child's ABA treatment and continue implemeting the techiques at home to hender generalization of the skills and maintaince.

What can you do at home?

1. Catch your child being good and praise/provide something that they like right after the behavior you want to see more of.

2. Before an activity, tell them exacly what you expect ( " FIRST clean up your room, THEN we can go to the park).

3. If a chore/ task/ activity feels too big, break it down such as each step is more manegable and you provide more reinforcement after the completation of each one.

4. Choices help kids feel in control, ( "Do you want to do homework at the table or in the couch?").

5. Consistency builds trust and help behaviors stick. The more consitent you are the better!!

" Autism is not a processing error. It's a different operating system. " - Sarah Hendrickx.

Manage Behaviors with the "ABCs of EASTER"

ANTECEDENT:
What happens BEFORE the behavior?

* Maybe it's the noisy crowd at an easter party, egg hunt or too many sweets!!
* Set the stage for success by preparing your child with clear expectations, sensory breaks or alternatives plans.

BEHAVIOR:
This is the action you see, tantrums, aggression towards others or refusing to participate.

* Instead of reacting, observe what is triggering it.
* Is it a sensory overload, is it being told no, or a need to escape or attention seeking?

CONSEQUENCE:
What happens immediately after the behavior occured?

* Consequences shape future actions.
* Reinforce positive behaviors with praise or a small reward (like an special easter egg), promote communication and expressing feelings and if the behavior is maintaned by escape or attention seeking, teach the appropriate alternative and redirect challenging behaviors offering support and choices.

Helping autistic children regulate their emotions is all about creating a safe, supportive environment and giving them the tools to understand and express how they feel.

Some of effective approches and startregies include:

1. Build Emotional Awareness
2. Use Co-regulation before Self-Regulation
3. Offer Predictible coping tools
4. Teach Self-Regulation Skills
5. Create safe, predictible routines
6. Validate, don't dismiss!!

It is important to know their "Triggers" and noticing patterns can help you prevent meltdowns before they happen.
