OPEN Overdose Prevention Engagement Network
Improving Lives from Engagement to Recovery. Prevention. Treatment. Recovery.

The Opioid Prescribing Engagement Network (OPEN) launched in October 2016 with support from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) Value Partnerships, and the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation (IHPI) at the University of Michigan. OPEN was founded in an effort to develop a preventive approach to the opioid epidemic in the state of Michigan by tailoring postoperative and acute care opioid prescribing.

Safe Storage and Disposal refers to the management of unused, unwanted, and expired medications in order to protect your family, community, and the environment. There are a variety of ways to practice safe storage and disposal, ranging from locked pill vials to medication deactivation bags.

In order to help our community stay safe, OPEN offers several different Safe Storage + Disposal programs designed to get valuable resources into the hands of community members and keep people safe.

Happy Halloween!

As you and your family get ready to celebrate, did you know that some candy and medications look very similar?

Are you able to tell which of the images below is candy and which is a medication?

Young children may not know the difference and mistakenly take unwanted medications thinking they're getting a sweet treat. Make sure this Halloween season that you are practicing safe storage techniques to keep your family safe.

Test your knowledge using OPEN's Candy or Medication resource here: https://michigan-open.org/resource/candy-or-medication/
