Hudson's research focuses on racial and socioeconomic health disparities, examining how systemic factors determine who gets sick, who stays well, and who dies too soon. Growing up in Detroit, he witnessed these inequities firsthand and now dedicates his career to creating change.

It Happened at Michigan: Researchers Helped Create the First Flu Vaccine

In 1941, having just been appointed chair of Epidemiology at the new School of Public Health, Thomas Francis Jr.—a physician and virologist who had helped identify the influenza B virus—was asked to lead the U.S. Army's Commission on Influenza, tasked with developing a vaccine.
