It may be getting colder outside, but we kept things toasty with our Coats & Kindness Social Series event!

We enjoyed a winterwear fashion show where we started collecting clothes to donate to House By The Side of the Road to help our community through the winter months. During the fashion show, we enjoyed seasonal treats and decadent affogato. The stars of the show? Virginia showed up in a beautiful fur coat that many of us tried on to walk the runway. It was so much fun to look and feel like a movie star!

We can't think of a better way to stay cozy and help others! If you'd like to donate some winter clothes to our clothing drive, we are still collecting through December 1st so please come drop them off by our front door! Thank you to all who donated thus far - we appreciate you and your support for our community!!

On Veterans Day, our community came together to honor the heroes who have served our country.

We enjoyed a patriotic lunch, shared personal stories, learned about the history of the holiday and paid tribute to the veterans who call our communities home – and those who continue to inspire us every day.

We had a beautiful service, led by Elizabeth from Home Helpers. She recognized the two of our Veterans who attended the program, but also recognized all the military spouses and those who had family in the service. Afterward, Christine led us in patriotic music and singing. It was a great time to honor and recognize our Veterans and their families.

To all who have served: Thank you for your bravery and service. 🇺🇸

When our Engage Life Director, Missy, started helping her grandfather in his search for an Assisted Living facility to move to, she knew that Atria would be the right choice for him.

"One thing on our first tour that really stood out to me were how many people were out-and-about. At some of the other places we toured, it was hard to find anyone out of their rooms to talk with. At Atria, it seems like there is always someone out to talk to. That is one of my favorite parts! The food is also one of my favorite parts. I've been here for a couple of months now and the food has always been very good."

In addition to the food and the people, Gary also mentioned how much he enjoys attending activities. Recently, he asked to also become an Ambassador to help new residents acclimate and feel welcomed during their moving process. When talking about activities, he said, "This is not a senior home, it's an activity home! There are things going on all the time!"

Missy has said what a wonderful experience it has been to see her grandfather every day. "It just makes me smile every time I walk into the dining room and see him socializing with people - some that he hadn't met even! He is so social and loves meeting new people. It makes my heart so happy to see him being the grandpa I grew up with and love."

These last two days have been filled with Halloween celebrations! Yesterday, we had Halloween games in the afternoon and the final judging of our pumpkin painting contest, followed by an awesome magic show from our favorite magician, Jason Jewell. We finished the day with the U of M Softball team joining us in costume for a game night. It was a great time!

This weekend, our residents and staff participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer's and were the best Greeters and Cheerleaders around! They cheered people on who were participating and danced on the stage to encourage everyone to get excited for the walk. It was a great day to support our friends with Alzheimer's! 💜

Last week, we were able to make lifelong dreams come true... We went skydiving! A resident said they had always wanted to go skydiving, and we found a place, iFly, in Novi that would let us go indoor skydiving. We are so proud of our residents for trying something so different and crazy!

Mary had been wanting to go skydiving for a long time. After the "flight," she said, "That was the best experience I've had in a long time. It looks so easy when you watch the other people go before you, then you get up there and decide you're going to fly like a bird like you always wanted to! You go up high and fly to the ceiling and do all kinds of crazy things up there. It's lots of fun, everyone should go. Go, go, go!"

When Bonnie was asked what she thought of the experience, she said, "AHH! That is my quote! I can't believe we did that. I can't wait to tell my grandchildren!" It was a wonderful day to make dreams come true. ❤️ ❤️

Today was a busy day here! We had the Clague Middle School Student Council join us for our Pumpkin Painting Contest this morning. The residents had a great time meeting their new friends and painting together!

Later this afternoon, we hosted a Bake Sale to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association in preparation for volunteering at the Alzheimer's Walk this Sunday. The bake sale went wonderfully, and we would like to thank everyone for their very generous donations! We raised over $500 for the Alzheimer's Association today with your help.

If you'd like to donate to our team, you can do so at this link: https://act.alz.org/site/TR?team_id=995624&pg=team&fr_id=18674 -roster . Thank you! 💜
