Self-love and self-care are not indulgences; they are practices that support emotional stability, cognitive clarity, and long-term well-being.”

There are several months in the year that hold significant meaning for me. February is one of them. Our fourth child was born on Valentine's Day. For some, that day is a day of love, chocolates, and Cupid. For others, it could be a day of sadness because Hallmark says everyone should have a Valentines. For our oldest daughter, it was the day her brother almost ruined her Valentines Day party with his birth. Based on the lens by which you view the day, your perspective of the day may be different.

Regardless of what you call the day, that day and many other days can hold significant meaning in your life. For our TBI survivors, the day of their accident may hold both a somber and celebratory reflection for them.

This month, I want you to pause for a moment and reflect on your significant days, both good and bad. Then, I want you to find a posture of thanksgiving for that day. I know it seems hard to find thanksgiving in bad days. However, if you are reading this newsletter….you are alive with sight and that is one reason to celebrate. Let that posture be firmly planted in your mind like the abundance of snow that has overtaken my driveway. Finally….SHARE about the day with others. Your story could be a blessing to others and could be shared right on time.

Until next time…..

This month, we’re sharing a sweet recipe to inspire a little joy in your kitchen. Cooking can be a powerful and often overlooked way to support mental health. The simple acts of stirring, chopping, and creating something nourishing can be grounding, calming, and surprisingly therapeutic.

Whether you’re cooking for yourself or others, taking time to prepare a meal can offer a moment of presence and creativity in a busy day. We hope these recipes bring not only something delicious to your table, but also a sense of peace and enjoyment.

This month’s sweet feature is chocolate brownie cookies; rich, comforting, and perfect for a cozy winter treat. We hope it adds a small moment of joy to your day.

These browkies, brookies or brownie cookies (whatever you call them!) They are soft, chewy and fudgy! Your new favourite recipe!

Supporting your mental health doesn’t always require major life changes. Often, it’s the small, intentional habits practiced consistently that make the biggest impact. This month, we’re sharing practical mental health tips you can use in everyday life to feel more grounded, supported, and steady.

Instead of overwhelming resolutions, try focusing on small, meaningful goals. Sustainable steps create long term change. Strengthening your support system is just as important; regular check-ins with people who uplift you, whether in person or by text, can significantly improve emotional well-being.

We also encourage you to prioritize rest and make it non-negotiable. Rest is not optional; it’s essential. Incorporating calm moments through stretching, deep breathing, or quiet reflection can help reduce stress and restore balance. Setting boundaries around digital overload, including screen time and social media, can also improve focus, mood, and sleep.

Finally, consider scheduling your wellness just like you would any other commitment. Whether it’s therapy, hobbies, or self-care, putting it on the calendar increases follow-through and reinforces that your mental health matters.

Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) can affect far more than physical health; they often impact emotional well-being, relationships, identity, and day-to-day functioning. This month, we’re highlighting the importance of mental health support for TBI survivors and the unique challenges they may face throughout recovery.

In our latest blog post, Supporting Mental Wellness for TBI Survivors, we explore how counseling can play a critical role in emotional healing, coping strategies, and long term resilience. Recovery is not always linear, and support that honors both the physical and emotional journey can make a meaningful difference.

We encourage caregivers, survivors, and loved ones to read, learn, and share this resource. Mental wellness is an essential part of healing, and no one should have to navigate it alone!

Therapy is not about fixing what’s “wrong” with you. It’s about creating space to better understand yourself, your experiences, and your emotional responses.

Through therapy, you can build awareness, strengthen coping skills, and learn how to support yourself with compassion. You deserve care, not correction!

📩 A MESSAGE FROM DR. WHITE 📩

Happy 2026! As we step into a brand-new year, we invite you to pause and reflect on the year behind you. How was 2025 for you? Joyful, challenging, or somewhere in between? No matter how it unfolded, every experience you walked through helped shape who you are today and prepared you for what lies ahead.

We often think of growth like baking a cake. On their own, the ingredients don’t always taste great. Flour, eggs, or baking soda aren’t exactly enjoyable by themselves. But when they’re combined, measured, and given time, they become something meaningful and complete. In the same way, every moment from last year, the wins, the losses, the waiting, all played a role in shaping this new season.

New years bring fresh opportunities, renewed strength, and space for growth, even when the road ahead feels uncertain. As 2026 begins, we encourage you to carry forward what you’ve learned with hope, intention, and purpose.

At WBC Counseling, 2025 brought both struggles and victories, and we’re grateful for all of it. Each experience prepared us to step into 2026 with excitement and gratitude. This year is especially meaningful as we celebrate 23 years of serving our community, welcome new clinicians to our team, and begin the year alongside a new intern. We’re deeply thankful for our clients, our community, and the trust you place in us. We can’t wait to see what this next chapter holds.

Until next time 🤍
