Don’t make the same mistakes I did!

I did so many things wrong when I first started my journey.

1. Hopping from medical specialist to medical specialist - I got NOWHERE with any of the docs I saw those first few years. In fact, I got a lot of really bad advice and underwent a lot of invasive testing that was bad for my health. There was one where I had to eat a bowl of radioactive eggs. Literally. No thank you Sam I Am. And another where they had to blow up a balloon in my bum. For real, I’m not making this stuff up! 🙄😂😤

2. This probably sounds self-serving, but it’s the truth so I’m just gonna say it - I wish I would’ve started working with a health ninja MUCH sooner. I got there… but it took me about 7 years. I wasted all that time & money trying to figure out what would work and what was wildly incorrect. I spent years throwing darts while blindfolded.

3. Not trusting fats – yup, I fell for the low-fat plan. Now I love my healthy fats! 🤗

4. Not going gluten-free – I fought to hang on to gluten for too long. But once I took the step, well there’s no going back for me – it changed EVERYTHING!

5. Shopping at boutique grocery stores – don’t get me wrong, they can be kind of rad for health-seeking foodies. But I didn’t know I could get the same quality food for less elsewhere. I wasted a lot of hard-earned 💲 before I figured that out.

6. Not prioritizing sleep 😴 – I didn’t realize just how much stress it puts on your body when you don’t get enough. Eight hours of sleep is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.

7. Not testing – I self-diagnosed and got myself in trouble (see more on that story: https://bit.ly/learningthehardway). In a nutshell: don’t guess, test!

You don’t have to waste your time and money wading thru the sea of information & practitioners on your own.

Press the fast-forward button and work with a Health Ninja who knows the way to the shortest path to feeling great!

What about you? Did you believe something only to find out later it was a bunch of hooey? Wanna share any healthy “urban legends” you’ve heard?

I remember sobbing in the exam room

I had been working 90+ hours a week for months. It was the first day I’d had off in so long…
and I got to spend it freezing in a hospital gown with intense IBS problems.

I was trying to nap on a hard bench in the waiting room because I was so very tired.

Oh, did I mention the tasty barium “smoothie” I had to chug down for my 1…2…3…4 scans that day?

At the time, I was in total despair. Everything I ate made me sick. Every meal. Every snack. And month after month, I just got worse.

I was under intense pressure at work but was stuck wasting a whole day “off” taking this yucky test & freezing my b***y off (those of you with low thyroid know what I’m talking about).

It was almost too much to bear.

I was exhausted and I just started sobbing.

But sometimes good things come out of bad. And that’s exactly what happened for me when I was at that miserable low point.

You see, that day was when I decided that I HAD to do something. I could not go on like this.

It was after this, when I was doing all the wrong things, that I eventually figured out how to do all the right things. 😊

And the very first thing I did RIGHT was realizing I could do something myself to change my health for the better.

That my health wasn’t set in stone by genetics.

That I could take charge of my health by making food & lifestyle choices that would seriously improve the way I felt every day.

It sure didn’t come easy for me though, lol. I had to be told by my health practitioner years ago, and in no uncertain terms: “Justine, there’s nothing more I can do to help you. You HAVE to start eating real food.”

And that’s the first thing I did right.

So what do you think? Does my story sound familiar to you? Have you ever felt that hopeless about your own health? You’re not alone.

Confessions of a Health Ninja - Do I do all the right things? Definitely not.

Do you have to be perfect to be healthy? Nope. You just have to do enough.

Here's the thing... your health is like a bank account. When you do healthy things, you're adding a credit. 🟢 When you do unhealthy things, it's a debit. 🔴 You have to maintain a certain level of credit in order to feel well.

The trick is making sure you're adding enough credits to outweigh the debits.

Here's my bank account ledger from yesterday:

Credits:
• Drank 22 oz of filtered water w/sea salt first thing, from a glass bottle, plus drank water throughout the day
• Breakfast: grass-fed beef sticks & avocado with coconut aminos + supplements
• Worked from the patio all day to take advantage of the fresh air
• Lunch: pastured organic butter (the rest of lunch goes in the debit list - lol)
• 30 min. heavy strength training
• 5 min. warm up & 5 min. cool down
• Drank collagen + electrolytes right after my workout, from a glass mason jar
• Did a round of dry brushing
• Took shower & used only organic, chemical-free soap, dried off w/a towel washed in chemical-free detergent
• Used homemade organic moisturizer on my face & aluminum-free deodorant in my pits
• Planned when I would fit a run into my schedule tomorrow
• Took time for family dinner instead of just working straight thru it
• Dinner: grass-fed/organic ground beef stir-fry w/cabbage & potatoes + supplements
• Did a 5 min. glute bridge while reading to my kiddo at bedtime
• Went to bed on time

Debits:
• Lunch: a rice cake & a pumpkin seed maple bar. They were organic, but too many carbs and very little protein
• Let myself get super stressed out about something for work
• THREE!!! (1, 2, 3) peanut butter cups
• Watched TV in bed instead of just going to sleep

So there you have it. I'm not ALWAYS on my health game. But you can see that the credits outweigh the debits. ⚖

That's the key. You don't have to be perfect, you just have to consistently pay into your health bank in order to FEEL healthy and BE healthy.

If you don't know how to do that or if you're racking up more debits than credits, we can help!

What’s your ledger look like?

Keep your resolution this year
You can do it!

Welcome to 2022! It’s officially a brand new year and time for new beginnings. It’s a time when most of us look to make a fresh start in some way. Have you already made some resolutions for the new year? I’d love to hear them!

Have you decided to say goodbye to drive-thru food forever?

Want to start sleeping at a reasonable hour and stop saying “just one more episode” for the third time?

Ready to clear those clothes off the treadmill and crank up your best workout station again?

Is it time to stop sacrificing your “me time” for other things?

Whatever your resolution is…go you!! 💥💖💥

But if you’ve tried all that stuff before and it didn’t deliver the great health and physique you were looking for…

If you’re tired of dealing with chronic health issues… if you feel like you’ve tried it all and nothing’s worked… if you’ve talked with your doctor and your tests have all come back “normal”… give us a call. We can help.

Nothing makes us smile more than helping someone feel better than they have in years, better than they ever thought they could again! To help them get rid of their migraines, or relieve their debilitating back pain, or put an end to years of indigestion and constipation - it’s why we do what we do.

Today’s post: the Hangover Helper - how to avoid the headache on New Year’s morning.

Okay, we all know that drinking alcohol isn’t the best thing for us – it’s chock-full of histamines, dehydrates us, and is basically a toxin.

Now that being said… we’re only human and sometimes we feel the need to celebrate with a drink or two – like to ring in the New Year for example. 💥🎉 💥

Here are some things you can do to minimize alcohol’s toll on your body:

Some alcohols are harder on your system than others – beer has gluten and some alcohols have more sugar in them. So here they are in order from “best” to worst:

• hard liquor - alone, mixed w/water, or electrolyte powder, or mixed w/something pure & low sugar (organic no-added-sugar cranberry/orange/lemon/lime juice)
• organic hard seltzer
• gluten-free kombucha beer
• white wine
• red wine
• gluten-free beer
• beer w/gluten (nearly 100% of all beer)

You can also take a DAO supplement - DAO is the enzyme that breaks down histamine in the body. When your histamine levels get too high you can get a headache, become flushed or congested, or get a rash. Alcohol contains a lot of histamine, and it's a double-whammy because it inhibits the body's ability to produce DAO. So taking DAO before drinking can help you lessen the hangover effects of alcohol.

Other supplements you can take are called binders because they do exactly that, they bind to the toxins to carry them out of the body as quickly and safely as possible.

Want a link to the list of supplements I recommend to help limit the consequences of a night of indulging? Drop a comment or DM me.

If you prefer to be festive but avoid the alcohol, how about a delicious alcohol-free cocktail?

• Whip fresh or frozen berries in a blender with ice & a dash of lime.
• Mix 2 oz. of fresh-squeezed orange or grapefruit juice w/sparkling water, diet tonic, or seltzer to make a low carb spritzer.
• Try a splash of stevia-sweetened lime and/or lemon juice w/spring water served over crushed ice.

What’s your favorite mocktail?

Have a Safe and Happy New Year’s!

We’ve helped couples reverse infertility.

After struggling for years with my own infertility and PCOS diagnosis, I discovered how to restore my fertility naturally with a specific fertility plan. My team and I have spent the last several years using this plan to help couples get pregnant naturally.

In our How To Overcome PCOS & Get Pregnant Naturally Masterclass last Tuesday we talked about the steps you can take and the changes you can make in your daily life to make drastic and measurable improvements to your fertility health.

It was a great class where we got to talk openly and honestly about infertility and a PCOS diagnosis and what that does and doesn’t mean. (spoiler: what it DOESN’T mean is that you can’t get pregnant naturally… because YOU CAN.)

There’s so much more I want to share with you, and it’s all right here in the replay. All you have to do is register.

>>> To Register for the replay just click the link (https://go.journeytovitality.com/registernow)

BONUS: When you watch the replay you’ll see the link to a free gift: Absolutely Necessary Essentials To Get Pregnant Naturally lays out the absolute basic first steps you must do in order to take charge of your fertility health! Everyone who attended the Masterclass got it as a free gift…and you can too.
You’ll also get a copy of the Fertility Powerhouse Supplement Plan that includes the exact supplements we recommend to our 1-on-1 clients who want to get pregnant naturally!

You get both of these super-helpful guides to get you started on the right track but you have to register in the next 48 hours! ⏲

Don’t wait. This Christmas give yourself the gift of hope!

Bacon. Wrapped. Potatoes.

Holiday entertaining means it’s time to bust out one of our favorite holiday recipes. These are a great guest fave – everyone loves ‘em and they’re ALWAYS the first dish to get finished off!
Bonus – this recipe is easy to scale up or down as desired. They’re Gluten-free, Dairy-free and simply Awesome. Try them once and you’ll believe!

You’ll need:
toothpicks
cookie sheet,
parchment paper (optional)

Ingredients:
Baby potatoes
Bacon
Avocado oil
Spices

Glaze: (optional)
Maple syrup
Coconut sugar

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Cut potatoes into bite-size pieces (How many? We cut up the bacon first – step 3 – and cut enough potato bites to match). Toss to coat in avocado oil & season to taste with your favorite spices. We keep it simple with salt, pepper & garlic powder - to balance out the sweetness of the glaze.

2. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper – if you’re glazing it’ll get messy and you’ll thank us when it’s clean up time! Spread potatoes evenly on sheet & cook until tender – about 25 min.

3. Cut raw strips of bacon into thirds. Once potatoes are cool enough to handle, wrap each one with a piece of bacon and secure with toothpick.

4. Return bacon-wrapped potatoes to cookie sheet, spacing evenly. If you counted wrong and have left over potatoes just pop them back on the sheet too. Some sad sack will get bacon-less bites, but they’re almost as yummy 😉

5. Bake at 400 until bacon is cooked to your liking. For us, we start checking them after 20-25 min.

If glazing (and it’s sooo delicious when you do!):

6. Mix together maple syrup & coconut sugar to taste. We do about ½ cup maple syrup with 1-2 Tbsp coconut sugar, depending on how many potato bites you’re glazing. Your bacon-tuition will guide you. (That’s bacon intuition, it’s a real thing - I swear!)

7. When bacon is cooked, remove from oven and baste bites with glaze. Return to oven for 5 minutes to cook that glaze on there good.

8. Serve warm - They won’t last long so make sure to grab a few for yourself before you let everyone else at them!
