🌈 Toy of the Week: Sidewalk Chalk
Spring is here! Sidewalk chalk is one way to build language, motor, & thinking skills outdoors. With one simple box of chalk, kids can practice:
• Talking about verb tenses: describing what they are doing, what they did, and what they will do next as they create their drawings
• Sequencing: planning or retelling steps using words like first, next, last as they explain how they will (or did) complete their picture
• Sharing: taking turns choosing colors, adding ideas, & working together on a drawing
• Fine motor skills: gripping, tracing, shading, & controlling hand movements as they draw
• Executive functioning: planning what they want to draw, organizing their ideas, remembering steps, & problem‑solving as their picture comes to life
• Writing numbers & letters: practicing early handwriting in a fun, low‑pressure way
A little chalk goes a long way in supporting motor skills, communication, & creativity. 🌼
