Stellate Ganglion Block - SGB- for PTSD

Stellate Ganglion Block - SGB- for PTSD Dr Mulvaney has been providing ultrasound guided SGB to treat PTSD since 2009.

He has contributed and authored many research studies on SGB for PTSD, and recently for its potential to help with anxiety and TBI.

Here is our latest research on the use of SGB for the treatment of anxiety. This builds on an earlier paper.

Bilateral Stellate Ganglion Blocks (SGB) improved anxiety symptoms out to 3 months.

We performed a right-sided two level SGB on day one, and a left-sided two level SGB on day two on patients that presented with anxiety symptoms as their main complaint. We used a standard questionnaire for anxiety called the GAD-7, and compared baseline scores, with scores at one and three months. Out of 114 patients, 99 (or 86.8%) patients showed durable improvement in symptoms of anxiety out to 3 months.

Purpose: Determine if performing ultrasound-guided, bilateral, two-level cervical sympathetic chain blocks (2LCSB) (performed on subsequent days) provides durable improvement in symptoms associated with anxiety. Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted between January 2022 and November 20...

We have been busy in the clinic and in doing research!

This our latest published peer-reviewed study showing that Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) symptoms are improved by 50% after doing Stellate Ganglion Blocks on each side of the neck (the right side on one day, the left on the next day for important safety reasons.) There are not many effective treatments for TBI, and this treatment is showing strong promise of help. Full Text Link below

Background/Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine if performing ultrasound-guided, bilateral, two-level cervical sympathetic chain blocks (2LCSBs) (performed on subsequent days) improves symptoms associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI) that do not overlap with posttraumatic stress d...

Excited for involvement in research project now to improve PTSD treatment options for Veterans.

We at The Stellate Institute are pleased to combine forces with The Ohio State University’s STRIVE Program to rigorously evaluate stellate ganglion block (SGB) plus CPT.

Interested Veterans, see below.
All of the study SGBs will be performed in Annapolis, MD by Dr. Lynch and Dr Mulvaney.

⭐️ PAID RESEARCH STUDY ⭐️
⭐️FOR VETERANS WITH PTSD ⭐️

The Ohio State University’s Su***de and Trauma Reduction Initiative for Veterans (STRIVE) are conducting a research study with US military Veterans diagnosed with PTSD. The purpose of this study is to improve treatment outcomes among Veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). We hope that the results obtained from this study will help us to more quickly reduce symptoms among Veterans with PTSD.

🔹The study will involve participation in 10 therapy sessions online.

🔹You will be asked to attend one hour of therapy every day for two weeks in a row.

🔹You will need to have a private location with stable internet connection to meet with a research therapist every day.

🔹You will be asked to participate in a stellate ganglion block (SGB), a procedure in which an anesthetic (pain medicine) is injected in the side of your neck around the nerve that controls the “fight or flight” response.

🔹You will be asked to complete 12 online surveys over the course of one year. Surveys will ask you about physical symptoms, behaviors, and emotions.

🔹You will be asked to complete several online tests that measure your reaction time, problem solving, and decision-making.

Eligible individuals who complete the study could receive up to $275 in compensation.

To see if you might be eligible for this study, click the link below to answer a series of questions. These pre-screening questions will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

How does SGB work? Hear it from experts Dr Mulvaney and Dr Lynch in this short video https://fb.watch/v/55ctiqMte/

The Stellate Institute was formed by Drs Lynch and Mulvaney in partnership with ROSM, in May 2021. Their mission: to serve as the world expert in applying new variants of the stellate ganglion block procedure to treat the injury of trauma, provide world class compassionate care to patients, continue to publish research as well as educate both our patients and other clinicians on the benefits of SGB as a fusion between biologic and psychologic treatments for trauma, and advocate on a national level for those struggling with PTSD.

We couldn't be happier to announce that Dr Jim Lynch will be joining Dr Mulvaney in practice at ROSM Annapolis beginning Apr 1st! Dr Lynch will be an extraordinary addition to our team.

Dr Mulvaney and Dr Lynch are old Army colleagues whose ground-breaking published research innovated and established the use of SGB to treat PTSD. They are the true leaders in this field of research.

Together, they will continue their mission of advancing innovations in the treatment of trauma and of providing world class care to their patients.

Welcome, Dr Lynch!

Hot off the presses! Just published in Journal of Military Medicine: New Concept in Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB) therapy for PTSD. Dr Mulvaney, Dr. Lynch and our team just published the first paper showing that a LEFT-sided SGB can be effective in some patients when a right-sided SGB fails to give the desired reduction in anxiety symptoms. All of the previous published peer-reviewed research has been on the clear benefits of the RIGHT-sided SGB. Our study showed that 4.5% of the patient population will ONLY respond to a left-sided block. We also estimate that a larger percentage of the patient population (10 - 20%) may respond better to a left sided SGB than a right sided SGB. This is practical knowledge that is immediately clinically relevant in helping patients and potentially preventing suicides. IMPORTANT: bilateral blocks should not be performed within 8 hours of one another due to potential risk of complete airway blockage. Honoring all Veterans today and every day.

Colonel Mulvaney , USA (Retired), aka Dr Mulvaney, did take some time off today to celebrate Veteran’s Day himself, but the office remains open to book appointments.

Veterans-cost of treatment for post traumatic stress are not a barrier here. Stellate ganglion blocks will be provided free of charge to all Vets as long as our funding lasts. If you need help, we are here for you.

We celebrate veterans everyday but today was extraordinary. The entire clinic day was dedicated to veteran care. 9 Veterans from 6 different states received treatment for PTS with complimentary stellate ganglion blocks provided with financial support from Angelguard.org and ROSM Annapolis. All patients responded very well to the SGB’s.

Here’s to healing this injury!
