March is Social Worker Appreciation Month, and we want to pause and recognize the incredible social workers who show up every day to support healing in so many different spaces.

In therapy rooms, hospitals, schools, community programs, and beyond — social workers hold space for some of life’s most vulnerable and transformative moments. They listen with care, advocate when systems feel overwhelming, and walk alongside people through grief, trauma, growth, and change.

The work is often unseen, and it’s rarely easy. But it is always meaningful.

To the social workers on our team and across our community:
Thank you for the compassion you bring into every conversation, the resilience you carry through hard days, and the unwavering belief that people deserve care, dignity, and support.

Your presence matters. Your work matters. And the impact you make stretches farther than you may ever know.

We’re so grateful for you — today and every day. 💛

🌸 In honor of International Women’s Day, we’re proud to spotlight our founder, Allison Scarinzi.

Allison’s vision for Lotus Psychotherapy has always been rooted in something deeper than growth — it’s about expanding access to high-quality, compassionate mental health care and challenging the stigma that keeps people silent.

As a progressive, heart-centered leader, she’s committed to building a model of care that is inclusive, insurance-accessible, and grounded in real human connection. From traditional therapy to more intensive levels of support, her mission is to create a seamless continuum of care that truly meets people where they are.

We’re grateful for her courage, leadership, and dedication to transforming how mental health is experienced in our community.

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health experiences — and one of the most misunderstood.

It’s not just “worry.”
It’s not weakness.
And it’s not something you have to just push through.

Sometimes anxiety is your nervous system working overtime, trying to protect you the only way it knows how.

If you’ve been living with racing thoughts, tension in your body, irritability, or constant “what if” thinking — you’re not alone. And you’re not broken.

Support can look different for everyone. At Lotus, we offer therapy, EMDR, somatic approaches, and medication management when appropriate — meeting you where you are and evolving care as your needs shift.

If this resonates:
🤍 Like this post to help normalize anxiety.
🤍 Save it for when you need the reminder.
🤍 Share it with someone who might feel seen by it.
🤍 Or comment below — what does anxiety feel like for you?

Healing isn’t about eliminating every anxious thought. It’s about helping your system feel safe again.

🌸 Spring is about renewal — and it’s never too late to honor and learn.
Even though February (Black History Month) has passed, reflecting now can feel even more meaningful — because it’s intentional, not just calendar-driven.

Here are gentle ways to ease into spring while growing in awareness:

🌼 1. Start with Reflection
• Journal about why you didn’t engage in February — without guilt, just curiosity
• Ask: What do I want to understand better moving forward?
• Try a spring intention like: “I commit to learning consistently, not seasonally.”

📚 2. Revisit Foundational Voices
Choose one book or author to begin with:
• The Souls of Black Folk by W. E. B. Du Bois
• Beloved by Toni Morrison
• Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Even a chapter a week builds meaningful momentum.

🎶 3. Make a Spring Soundtrack
Music holds resistance, story, and soul.
Start with artists like:
• Nina Simone
• Marvin Gaye
• Kendrick Lamar
Let their voices accompany your walks in the blooming air.

🎨 4. Support Black Creators
• Follow and purchase from Black-owned businesses
• Visit museums or exhibits featuring Black artists
• Near D.C.? Explore the National Museum of African American History and Culture (many resources are online too!)

💫 5. Make It Ongoing
Black history isn’t one month long. Spring can be a reset point.
• Subscribe to a Black-led newsletter
• Join a book club
• Learn about one historical figure each month

Growth doesn’t require perfection — just intention. ✨

🌿 March can be a reset — not because everything changes overnight, but because growth is allowed to begin again.

There’s something about this time of year that invites reflection. The light shifts. The air softens. And even if life still feels heavy or uncertain, there’s room to start gently.

A reset doesn’t mean reinventing yourself.
It doesn’t require big declarations or dramatic change.

Sometimes it looks like:
• Setting one small boundary
• Scheduling the appointment you’ve been putting off
• Noticing your inner dialogue and choosing something kinder
• Letting yourself rest without earning it

If this season feels tender instead of energizing, that’s okay too. Renewal can be quiet. It can be slow. It can simply be a willingness to stay present with yourself.

✨ What are you gently working on this month?

🌱We’re Growing — and We’re So Grateful

We’re excited to share that The Refuge is relocating to a new space:

📍147 Old Solomon’s Island Rd, Suite 501
Annapolis, MD 21401

This move gives us more room to grow — not just as a team, but in how we support you.

Over the past few years, Lotus Psychotherapy and The Refuge have expanded in ways we could have only hoped for. What started as a vision for compassionate, accessible, whole-person care has grown into a community of clients and clinicians committed to doing meaningful work together.

As demand for integrated, insurance-accessible mental health care has increased in our community , we recognized the need for a space that reflects that growth — one that allows us to continue offering structured, intensive support through The Refuge while staying grounded in the warmth and relational care that defines Lotus.

This new office gives us the space to deepen our continuum of care — ensuring that when more support is needed, it’s available in a compassionate, community-rooted environment.

Most of all, we feel humbled.

Humbled that so many individuals and families have trusted us with their stories.
Humbled that our community continues to show up for this work.
Humbled that we’ve grown enough to need more room — so we can better support your growth.

Our mission has always been to expand access to high-quality mental health care while meeting people exactly where they are. That doesn’t change with a new address. If anything, this move strengthens our ability to live that mission fully.

We look forward to welcoming you into our new space soon.
